17 UMP Graduates are ECRL Trainees

Kuantan, 19 November – 17 Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) graduating recently are a part of the trainees for the ECRL Industrial Skills Training Programme (PLKI-ECRL) currently undergoing their training at UMP Gambang Campus. The programme is a collaboration between UMP, Malaysia Rail Link Company (MRL) and China Communications Construction Company (ECRL) Sdn. Bhd. (CCCC) aimed at producing more skilled labour force in the rail industry.

According to Professor Dr. Razalman Mamat, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and also the Head Coordinator of the PLKI ECRL UMP Programme, the graduates are part of the trainees for the PLKI-ECRL programme possessing qualification in the field of civil engineering and are training to enhance their knowledge in the field of railway technology.

“UMP has been appointed as the Focal University for the PLKI-ECRL programme. In developing the syllabus for the programme, we have been assisted by Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) and Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJU) from China” commented him during a meeting session with the graduates. Also present was Professor Dr. Jamil Ismail, the Assistant Vice Chancellor (Industry & Community Engagement)

UMP through its Faculty of Mechanical Engineering also introduce a new course called Mechanical Engineering Technology (Rail Systems Operation & Maintenance) as an elective course to be offered starting this semester. Meanwhile, the university is also planning to offer a new programme in Engineering Technology Facility Management (Transit Services) under the Faculty of Engineering Technology in the near future.

For Farah Aqila Tun Riduan, 24, a graduate from the Faculty of Civil Engineering & Earth Resources, she felt so happy not only because of her graduation but also because of her inception into this programme which is the first of its kind in Malaysia.

According to Mohamad Hazman Mohamad Yusof, 23, being the first batch of this programme enables him and his colleagues to acquire new experience especially in rail technology from the Chinese lecturers.

In addition, the father of Zuraidah Hasbullah, 23, who is joining the PLKI training, Hasbullah Sarpin, 66, express his pride and joy when his daughter graduated and also being selected to join the PLKI-ECRL training.

The 12th UMP Convocation Ceremony saw a total of 2,845 UMP graduates receiving their degree and diploma at scheduled for three days starting from 18th to 20th November at the Sports Complex, UMP Gambang Campus.
