2 industries receive UMP Excellence Awards

Kuantan, 28 August 2020 – BASF Petronas Chemical Sdn. Bhd. (BASF) and Volkswagen Group Malaysia (VGM) were named the recipients of the Best Industry Partner Award in Majlis Apresiasi in conjunction with the Innovation & Quality Day of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) 2020 at the Sports Complex, UMP Gambang recently.
This academic-industry initiative is an effort to transfer knowledge and technology to the community in line with the UMP Strategic Planning 2021-2025 themed ‘Technology For Society’ to strengthen collaboration across academics, research and development, and services.
The good collaboration between the university and the industry also shows the continued commitment of BASF, which has been a sponsor for chemical engineering graduates in the UMP Convocation Ceremony for five consecutive years.
BASF also collaborates in executing social service programmes, including providing specialised expertise and experience for UMP students and staff.
Meanwhile, VGM had always supported the joint venture in strengthening the engineering programme when it donated four car models to UMP worth RM382,072.43.
VGM also receives students from dual degree programmes for internship.
According to the VGM Head of Pilot Hall, Nor Hayati Othman, this strategic relationship was established about a year ago.
“Last semester, we received students for their internships, and four more are expected to participate in the programme after this.
“We are very satisfied with the ability of UMP students during their internships as they have high technical skills and easily cooperate with their assignments.
“Also, since these students master the German language well, it makes it easier to perform daily tasks.
“We really appreciate this award and look forward to more cooperation between UMP and VGM in the future,” she said.
Meanwhile, the BASF Director Site Services, Ir. Shahruny Mohd Akil praised UMP students who were seen not only excel academically but also skilled during their internships.
“They are committed to the task. This collaboration also benefits BASF staff who have the opportunity to continue their studies at UMP,” he said.
