Iftar Ceremony with Orphans and a Visit for Senior Citizens.

Kuantan, 4 June - The Iftar ceremony with children from Nur Iman Home for Orphans and Poor Children and the visit to Sri Permai Shelter for Senior Citizens are among the volunteerism activities hosted by Institute of Postgraduates Studies (IPS) with collaboration of Universiti Malaysia Pahang’s Postgraduate Association (PGA) in conjunction of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr.

The ceremony and the visit involved staffs from Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS) along with local and international postgraduate students from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP).
The visit was held with the aim to help lessen the burden of 18 senior citizens from Sri Permai Shelter for Senior Citizens, along with three management staffs in performing their duty and celebrating the upcoming Eid al-Fitr. The donation delivered by the Dean of IPS, Professor Dato’ Dr. Hasnah Haron and the Deputy Dean of IPS, Professor Datin Dr. Mimi Sakinah Abd Munaim.

Professor Dato’ Dr. Hasnah said, it was the donation collected from staffs and postgraduate students of UMP. “The donation includes basic living needs such as used clothes, rice, cooking oil, Milo, crackers, toiletries, prayer mats and ‘kain pelikat’. ‘Duit raya’ was also delivered to the senior citizens to lift their spirit in celebrating Eid al-Fitr soon,” she said.
Meanwhile, the head of the shelter, Mohd Fauzi Ramli stated they were very happy and contented to receive a visit from IPS with postgraduate students and the donation given brought joy to them in preparation to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

He also thanked community from UMP for keeping in touch and constantly giving donation not just in the month of Ramadhan but also in other times as well. He with the senior citizens appreciate the commitment shown by UMP community in helping and donating. He added, they also hope that UMP will continue helping them in channeling the donation for the people of Sri Permai Shelter for Senior Citizens.
The activity for the day continued with an iftar ceremony at Nur Iman Home for Orphans and Poor Children at Kampung Kempadang, Kuantan. The home accommodates 50 orphans and poor children with age ranging from 6 to 17 years old.

The program was initiated with an opening speech by Professor Dato’ Dr. Hasnah and continued with a welcoming speech from the principal of the home, Ustaz Badrul Huzaini Mohd Yusof.
Another donation was also delivered during the program which includes rice, cooking oil, ‘duit raya’, stationeries and other daily necessities. The donation was delivered by Professor Dato’ Dr. Hasnah and Professor Datin Dr. Mimi Sakinah, representing IPS with Vice President 2 of Postgraduate Association, Amri Muaz Azmimurad, representing postgraduate students from UMP.

The presence of postgraduate students lights the atmosphere up prior to iftar with some interesting activities being done with the children. There were some gifts prepared for children that participate actively in the activities too. The visit ended with iftar and performing Maghrib prayer with the children from Nur Iman Home for Orphans and Poor Children.
