Yayasan UMP contributes to flood victims

JERANTUT, 11 January 2021 - A total of 100 flood victims in Jerantut received food kit assistance and necessities as well as personal hygiene kit from Yayasan UMP and the Student Volunteer Foundation (YSS) in the Ziarah UMP-KPT Prihatin Programme to help those still staying at the temporary relief centres (PPS) around Jerantut.
 
Among those receiving assistance include the residents from Kampung Paya Gunung, Kampung Paya Garuk, Tanah Rong, Kampung Pedah, and Kampung Simpang Tebing Tinggi which were recently hit by flood. 
Present at the programme was the Chairman of the UMP Board of Directors who is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan UMP, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman.

Also present were the member of UMP Board of Directors, Mohd Sharil Abdullah, UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Dato’ Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.

According to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Abdul Aziz, he was sympathetic and concerned about the current situation faced by the flood victims in several districts in Pahang.

“This contribution is the university concern to help those in need.

“UMP volunteers also worked together to clean the flood-ravaged houses.

“It is hoped that this aid can ease the burden of those affected by the flood,” he said.

Yayasan UMP also welcomes contributions from the public, industry, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and philanthropists to contribute to the UMP Disaster Fund to benefit more people.

The aid is in the form of necessities, groceries, blankets and hygiene kits.

Meanwhile, volunteers are reminded to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) and the new normal practices because safety remains a priority.

A total of 25 volunteers among UMP students and staff worked together to clean the students’ houses affected by flood.

The volunteers began working as early as 8.30 am until 4.00 pm.

The initiative to clean the houses is as an effort to ease their burden.
