Journal Quality and Ecosystem initiative helps support UMP 25 Strategic Plan

PEKAN, 27 January 2022 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) Press, through the UMP Journal Quality and Ecosystem initiative, is taking steps and strategies in supporting the UMP 25 Strategic Plan, which targets a significant increase in UMP-issued journals in the world’s prestigious bibliographic database by 2025.

The event held at the Executive Lounge, UMP Pekan Library, aimed to provide a holistic view of the goals and objectives of the initiative.

According to Muhammad Azli Shukri, the Director of UMP Press, the best way to ensure that UMP-issued journals remain outstanding and resilient is to create a comprehensive and sustainable journal management ecosystem.

“Previously, UMP Press had appointed outside experts to provide advice and guidance on UMP journals.

“Now, we will prioritise policy refinement, competency development, editor succession plans, system improvement, and journal reporting,” he said.

At the same time, all the editors-in-chief and managing editors of the UMP journals were briefed on the timeline of the initiative by the Assistant Publication Officer, who is also a representative of the UMP Journal Committee, Shalfarina Shahriman and Dr. Mohd Hasnun Arif Hassan, Head Coordinator for Open Journal System (OJS).

Among the contents of the UMP Journal Quality and Ecosystem initiative include Sustainability Audit, Profile Development and Diagnosis, Editor Competency Development, Reporting Refinement, Appreciation and Recognition, and Branding and Publicity.

To date, UMP has 14 journals, some of which with SCOPUS and MyCite status.
