More than 1,000 students seize opportunity to pursue study in B40 UPU2U Programme
BERA, 20 September 2022 - Over 1,000 school students have the opportunity to participate in the Pahang Zone B40 UPU2U 2022 Programme organised by the Public Higher Education Institution (BKPA JPT) Student Admission Division in collaboration with the Pahang State Department of Education and Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) to provide exposure and understanding to the community, especially the B40 group who have difficulty accessing information online.
The programme held at the Bera Rakan Muda Complex Hall, Pahang also provides the public with detailed information on how to fill in UPUOnline for university admission.
The program was officiated by the Director of Student Admission Division, Wahi Nordin.
Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rosli Hainin, the official representative of the Director of the Pahang State Education Department, Wan Nazarul Hazwan Abd Razak and the Director of the UMP Centre for Marketing and Academic Intake (PPKA), Zainal Bahari.
According to Wahi, the Student Admission Division or UPU provides a special pathway in admission to IPTA.
“Among the groups involved are indigenous children, people with disabilities, athletes and children of the B40 income group.
“UPUOnline candidates in this group do not need to compete with mainstream groups, they only need to meet the general and special requirements set by the institution and will be screened in their respective groups only.
“This programme also disseminates information about existing and new programmes offered by public universities (UA), polytechnics, Community Colleges, Public Skills Training Institutions (ILKA) and other institutions as well as admission for distance learning, part-time learning and learning through short courses,” he said.
Meanwhile, Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rosli said that UMP as one of the UA has always been committed to helping all students from any zone to continue their studies.
“Not only in UMP but other universities in Malaysia.
“However, as a university in Pahang, the focus is definitely on Pahang natives to pursue higher education and we certainly expect UMP to be one of the preferred universities for students,” he said.
He hoped all candidates for the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) and Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) to take this opportunity to meet the representatives from all IPTA and IPTS in each location where the programme is conducted.
At the same time, the university will always help SPM and STPM holders, especially from the B40 group, to continue their studies, thus avoiding attrition among these students.
The UPU2U programme not only focuses on the B40 group but has been expanded to indigenous people and ten locations have been designated throughout Malaysia from September to March 2023.
