Father found strength to receive Posthumous Award for son

PAYA BESAR, 6 November 2022 - As other parents were happy to celebrate their children’s graduation, Ab Razak Ahmad, 67 and Norhana Hanim Abdullah, 65, stayed strong to receive the Posthumous Award for their son on the second day of the 17th Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) Convocation Ceremony today.

The award was presented by the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrrie Zainuddin to the parents of the late Muhammad Raafi Ab Razak, 22, a graduand of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Energy & Environment), Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology (FTKA) who had died on 15 October 2021 due to a road accident.

The father of the late Muhammad Raafi, Ab Razak Ahmad said, although they missed the opportunity to see the youngest child be on stage to receive the degree, he was willing to attend to receive it on behalf of his son at the Convocation Ceremony, to appreciate his effort in his study.

“Allahyarham Muhammad Raafi was close to me growing up and often stated that he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his brother and sister to enter the university.

“Since we have never been far away, he chose UMP to continue his study because it is close to our home in Pekan, Pahang.

“During his study, he was also active in the Reserve Officer Training Unit (ROTU) and activities at the university.

“Death will invite anyone regardless of age, young or old,” he said.

He added in normal life, he should go first, but Allah’s will is more than anything and he accepts the fate.

He is also proud of the success of his late son just like the other children.
