Opportunities to empower students entrepeneurship in TUBE@IPT

PAYA BESAR, 13 November 2022 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) today received a delegation visit from SME Corp. Malaysia in its visit session to learn about the development of the participants of Tunas Usahawan Belia Bumiputera (TUBE@IPT) in UMP.

The visit session was led by the Chairman of SME Corp. Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Syed Hussein Al Habshee.

The delegation was welcomed by the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.

Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohammed, Senior Director of Programme Coordination, SME Corp. Malaysia, Haji Mohd Izham Abdullah and Director of SME Corp. Pahang, Nadia Yusof.

Chairman of SME Corp. Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Syed Hussein Al Habshee congratulated UMP on achieving graduate employability surpassing 96 per cent and hoped that it could be sustained for the development of entrepreneurs.

At the same time, he also congratulated UMP for being selected to participate in the programme.

“Through this programme, each participant is provided with various comprehensive and sustainable training and preparation to become an entrepreneur who can contribute to local economic growth and provide employment opportunities to others,” he said.

Meanwhile, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie said students and graduates would be exposed and learn the steps needed to become successful entrepreneurs.

“UMP is very pleased with the selection of UMP participants to participate in the programme and receive grants from SME Corp. Malaysia of RM240,000.

“This forward-looking step provides support for local universities in an effort to produce more competitive graduate entrepreneurs and act as job creators who will provide job opportunities to prospective graduates.

“This programme aligns with the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025 through the student entrepreneurship development agenda,” he said.

At the same time, he is confident in SME Corp. Malaysia’s involvement through this TUBE@IPT programme.

He added that the experience and network of business networks they have and the entrepreneurial guidance provided would inevitably produce more student entrepreneurs who can establish high-impact and innovative companies and can compete internationally towards making Malaysia a top entrepreneurial country.

The TUBE@IPT programme involves 231 participants from eight selected universities and they receive business grants to develop businesses.

Meanwhile, 16 UMP participants successfully completed the training and were assisted by four mentors who guided and monitored the progress of UMP TUBE@IPT participants.
