300 staff and leadership of UMP Holdings Group sign corruption-free pledge

PAYA BESAR, 29 November 2022 - A total of 300 staff and leadership of UMP Holdings Group declared their pledge and promised to be more responsible in carrying out their duties, refraining from any bribery, and eradicating immoral behaviour while ensuring the integrity of the organisation.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of UMP Holdings Group (UMPH), Mr. Syed Alwi Mohamed Sultan, the Corruption-Free Pledge (IBR) is an initiative that has been made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) which aims to provide an approach and increase awareness to avoid abuse of power, especially corruption.

He said this IBR emphasises the pledges and promises made by the leadership of organisations and its members voluntarily to remain committed and responsible in carrying out their daily tasks.

“The organisation of the Corruption-Free Pledge event today is very significant in providing an exposure of how important the issue of corruption is known and made aware.

“In this context, UMPH and MACC work together in synergy to ensure that UMPH staff are sensitive to this issue.

“Embracing integrity and fighting corruption is a serious initiative,” he said, leading the pledge reading at the UMP Holdings Group’s Corruption-Free Pledge event at UMP Paya Besar.

He also hoped that the UMPH management should be more transparent, responsible and with integrity in carrying out tasks and avoiding any corrupt activities throughout the service.

In addition, he said, every staff needs to abide by the signed undertaking letter to comply with Act 605 Statutory Bodies (Discipline and Surcharge) 2000 during the service with UMPH.

“This effort will keep the organisation free from any signs of corruption and power misuse,” he said.

In the same event, Mr. Syed Alwi also received the ISO 37001:2016 (Anti-Bribery Management System) certification presented by the representative of ISO certificate consultant Fatimah Ali from Platinum Shauffmantz Veritas International.

The event was also attended by the Deputy Director of Outreach, MACC Community Education Division, Mr. Ab Muneim Ibrahim, Director of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Pahang State MACC, KPKPj Hairuzam Mohmad Amin@Hamim and UMP Chief Librarian, Azman Abdul Rahim.

There was also a talk session titled Sejauh Mana Kita Kenali Jenayah Rasuah (To what extent do we know corruption as a crime) delivered by the Head of the Private Sector & Government-linked Companies (Community Education Division), MACC Community Education Division, Mr. Awang Samsul Baharam Bungso.
