Dr. Ahmad Mahfuz and Dr. Hasnah win Best Article Writing Awards

PEKAN, 23 March 2023 - The lecturer of the Faculty of Industrial Science and Technology (FSTI), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Dr. Ahmad Mahfuz Gazali emerged as the winner of the Best Article Writing Award for the Engineering, Science and Technology category while the lecturer of the Centre for Human Sciences (PSK), Dr. Hasnah Hussiin was named the winner in the category of Nationhood, Social Sciences and Humanities.

The awards were presented by UMP Board Member, Dato’ Hajah Habibah Mohd Yusof in conjunction with the recent UMP Quality and Innovation Day Ceremony.

Dr. Ahmad Mahfuz was surprised but delighted when his article “Manfaat MySejahtera untuk Kajian Long Covid” was selected to win this award.

“The article came from my experience when I tested positive for COVID-19 last year.

“For me, the efforts of the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) should be commended in integrating technology and self-reporting by using the MySejahtera app.

“This app is indeed beneficial for the community in monitoring COVID-19 patients, especially patients with prolonged symptoms or post-COVID syndrome,” he said, who took home a certificate and RM1,000 cash prize.

While the article Hasnah Hussiin titled “Kesang Tua, Melaka: Dari Selat Melaka ke Pentas Dunia?” tells the story of a small village called Kesang Tua that harbours a thousand secrets that may not be widely known that it managed to produce scholars, scientists, professionals, politicians and experts in the country.

“This sharing is extraordinary because it is a small village, while most of the population work as farmers, rubber tappers and work in villages but can produce so many intellectuals.

“These people not only become local champions but even reach the international stage when there are people working at the World Bank,” she said.

Second place in the category of Engineering, Science and Technology was won by Dato’ Ir. Ts. Dr. Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz from the Centre for Sustainability of Ecosystem & Earth Resources with an article titled “Industri Perlombongan Negara dan Matlamat Pembangunan Mampan (SDG): A Review”.

The third place was won by Associate Professor Dr. Aizi Nor Mazila Ramli from the Faculty of Industrial Science and Technology (FSTI) with the title “Revolusi Penanaman Cendawan ke Arah Keselamatan Makanan Mampan di Malaysia”.

In addition, the second place in the category of Nationhood, Social Sciences and Humanities was won by the Manager of the Research and Innovation Department, Rosilavi Mat Jusoh with the title “Hala Tuju Pembangunan Industri Kenderaan Elektrik Perlu Diperkemas” while the third place was won by Dr. Noradilah Md Nordin from PSK with the title “Beri Sokongan Emosi kepada Murid Mangsa Bencana Banjir”.

Second and third place winners received a certificate and RM700 and RM500 cash prizes.

The Best Article Writing Award aims to give appreciation and recognition to staff who have succeeded in proving an excellent level of achievement through the cultivation of writing practices as well as improving the quality of work through the cultivation of innovation in assignments and responsibilities entrusted.
