Master knowledge and skills of identity building for students - VC

KUANTAN, 13 October 2022 - The young generation is called to become educated people who master the latest knowledge and skills and have a strong identity.

The UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin said that one’s experience throughout the university will help them find their voice and ambition or ‘your true calling’ while paving an unforgettable journey for students to reach the top of the ivory tower.

He said that the success of setting foot in the ivory tower is the dream of each youth to shape their own future.

He sincerely hoped that all UMP students and associates would always adhere to the five core values of UMP so that the vision of becoming a top technological university could be achieved.

He added that the goal of the struggle of each student is to get a stable job after graduation to improve their standard of living and their families’.

“UMP is a technical university characterised by technology and engineering and always aspires to be an innovative and competitive university globally,” he said.

Sharing on graduate employability, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie said that UMP’s collaboration with industry partners is also part of the sharing of basic and applied research expertise and technical skills to fulfil the demands and needs of the current industry.

“UMP has also received a grant from SME Corp Malaysia of RM240,000 to produce competitive student entrepreneurs who will be job creators.

“This also supports efforts towards producing more student entrepreneurs,” he said while speaking at the Vice-Chancellor’s Mandate Ceremony in conjunction with Student Induction Week 2022 at Sports Complex Hall, UMP Gambang Campus.

More proudly, UMP has a good percentage of graduate employability, which is 96 per cent in 2021.

“This proves that UMP graduates are highly sought-after in the challenging job market in our country,” he said.

He also advised students to make the best use of their time and opportunities to gain academic excellence.

“However, do not forget to also use some time to exercise, have fun and socialise with the community and fellow students from various states in Malaysia and other countries.

“Likewise, participation in clubs and other interesting activities should be taken advantage of to build your character and improve your soft skills,” he said.

The programme was also attended by top management and deans with a total of 1,459 new students registering via drive-through on 11 and 12 October.

Of these, 990 students attend UMP Gambang Campus, while 449 attend UMP Pekan.
