UMP, MBK collaborate in effective management of traffic and public transport systems

KUANTAN, 30 March 2022 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) will collaborate with the Kuantan City Council (MBK) in sharing expertise to improve traffic management efficiency and public transport management in line with the development of smart and sustainable cities especially involving cities with high mobility and pedestrian-friendly levels.

The research team is led by Professor Ts. Dr. Othman Che Puan with the involvement of a research group comprising academic and technical staff from Transportation & Geotechnics Research Group (TGRG) UMP according to the research sector involving road facilities performance, parking space management, traffic distribution system, terminal facilities and bus stops, public transport and others.

Also in the team are Associate Professor Dr. Ir. Adnan Zulkiple, Ts. Dr. Khairil Azman Masri, Ir. Dr. Azhani Zukri, Dr. Intan Suhana Mohd Razelan, Azlina Haji Ismail and Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rosli Hainin.

The event saw the signing of letter of intent (LoI), in the presence of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli representing the UMP Vice-Chancellor and the Mayor, Kuantan City Council, Dato’ Dr. Hamdan Hussin.

According to Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal, both sides will share their expertise and experience to implement efforts and initiatives in every aspect towards making Kuantan a smart and sustainable city in line with the Kuantan City Competitiveness Master Plan.

“This research is carried out as an input to the process of drawing up short- and long-term plans for effective management of traffic and public transport systems to improve the mobility and walkability of the city,” he said in a programme held at the MBK Building, Kuantan.

The focus of the study involves major roads and junctions in the city centre area, links with KotaSAS, Jalan Beserah and Jalan Teluk Sisek, and other identified areas.
