UMP strategic relationship with cluster schools, Velionne Racing makes the country proud

PEKAN, 8 June 2021 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) strategic network with cluster schools came to fruition when the Velionne Racing team from Sekolah Menengah Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom (Malaysia) and Shanghai Pinghe Middle Schools (China) received a special jury panel recognition award in the F1 in Schools World Finals competition held online in the United Kingdom recently. 

The Velionne Racing team consists of three members, namely Nur Hadfina Abdul Majid, Nazrah Umairah Nazrin Effendi and Nur Anis Ayuni Ishamudin from Malaysia, and the other three members, namely Dengjing Wu, Leyu Xu and Zhicheng Lin from China.

Competing with 44 teams from various countries, Velionne Racing secured a place with international collaboration between Malaysia and China. This group is also one of the eight teams from Malaysia on par with teams from European countries. They qualified with international collaboration and received the award after gruelling battles with teams from Spain and Brazil.

According to the Deputy Dean, Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS), Professor Ir. Dr. Ahmad Razlan Yusoff from UMP College of Engineering, Teacher Hasfasuriazal Hasman, together with the students of this school, regularly hold consultations related to the use of resin material development technology to produce prototypes using three-dimensional printers at the university.

“This good collaboration also involves using tools at UMP in analysing elements and testing the strength of plastics to fabricate F1 models.
“With the help of Dr. Jamilludin Jamil as the Head of Technical, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom, a UMP adopted or cluster school since 2012 has succeeded in placing UMP’s name on the national and international stages, including in the United States of America and Singapore.
“A lot of experience and expertise is gained as a result of UMP’s good collaboration to help schools create success locally and abroad,” he said.

He said the encouragement and support from UMP lecturer, Associate Professor Dr. Norhayati Abdullah and research officer Nur Syuhada’ Asmar contributed a lot to the students’ determination to pursue polymer engineering and cultivate interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the future.

The school also became the champion in the F1 in Schools competition at the Eastern Zone Level every year from 2012 to 2018, including being the overall champion of the national level competition for three consecutive years.The strategic relationship with this cluster school also involves offering the expertise of faculty staff and successfully placing UMP on the international stage.
