UMP towards Smart Campus

PUTRAJAYA, 12 December 2021 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang aims to become a smart campus and the implementation of this initiative is in line with government’s aspiration in strengthening digital government agenda in this country. 

In line with the needs of Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, university needs to implement digital transformation towards a smart campus to remain relevant to the current needs and expectations of stakeholders.

According to the Chairman of UMP Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dato' Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, the university also plays a role in the development of the country and it is reflected through the development of the university itself.

“We need to look at this high technology, green campus, digitization, translating big data, Internet of Things (IOT) and Smart Campus as a medium that could lead to a shift in the use of technology.

“By looking at the resources available, I hope that UMP can gather researchers specializing in various fields so that they can contribute into making this agenda a reality. 

“Besides, the university and UMP Foundation through the Institute of Civilization and Strategic Studies (ITKAS) are also mobilizing the Strategic Studies Committee (JKKS) under the IR 4.0, Sustainability and Green Campus clusters,” he said in Majlis Sanjungan Budi Mantan Ahli Lembaga Pengarah UMP recently. 

He also plans to study several Smart Cities that integrate technology to improve services and public safety in enhancing the quality of life of people in this country. 

In the meantime, Tan Sri Dato' Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz expresses his gratitude for the great contributions of Dato' Majid Mohamad during his appointment as a member of the UMP Board of Directors from 15 August 2018 to 14 August 2021.

According to him, Dato' Majid has vast experience, especially in upholding the culture of integrity that is closely related to governance, and issues of ethics and values.

Dato' Sri Md. Sharif Shamsuddin who was appointed from 10 October 2018 to 20 June 2021 and Datuk Aishah Shaikh Ahmad who was appointed from 1 September 2016 to 31 August 2021 were among the former members of UMP BOD that were celebrated in the event. 

He added that all the services and dedications in the form of energy, time, thoughts, views and experiences have contributed a lot to the success of this university, " added Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz.

Meanwhile, Dato' Majid appreciates the commitments of the BOD members and university officials who have collectively played their role in ensuring the success of UMP’s excellence agenda.

He hoped that UMP as a technical university would continue its efforts on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes as well as strengthening educational initiatives by focusing on improving Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education among school students.

The ceremony was continued with the token of appreciation giving ceremony from the university representative. 

Also present at the ceremony was Professor Dato' Ts Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin who is performing the duty of UMP Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rosli Hainin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli, Registrar/Chief Operating Officer, Hazmin Aris and BOD members.
