6 categories of students to return to UMP in stages starting 6 March

KUANTAN, 5 February 2021 - Only six categories of students are allowed to return to the campus based on a pre-set schedule in ensuring the teaching and learning (T&L) activities can proceed effectively.

Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) is ready to receive students physically to the campus from 6 March to resume Semester II, 2020/2021, which is scheduled to begin online on 1 March.

Students from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, must comply with the requirements set by their respective state authorities before returning to the campus on 20 and 21 March 2021.

This is in line with the latest guideline issued by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) that allows students in the Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) to return to their respective campuses in stages as early as 1 March, with the first category includes certificate-level students, diploma, bachelor’s degrees and postgraduates requiring activities involving practical, laboratories, clinical, practical training, studios, workshops and special equipment.

The second category involves students who do not have internet access and a conducive environment for the online T&L activities.

The third category includes Foundation students or equivalent and Diploma students who are already on campus to continue T&L in the hybrid mode.

The fourth category involves the current and new international students, except from the United Kingdom (UK), the fifth category involves students with disabilities (OKU), and the sixth category includes students sitting for MUET, international and professional bodies examinations.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rosli Hainin, UMP has prepared an action plan to receive students considering the current COVID-19 development in the country.

“The preparations include the safety of the campus denizens, health screening, and the critical needs for the new norm T&L activities, and at the same time, the online T&L continues.

“UMP has also identified students with disabilities and those who do not have internet access and a conducive learning environment for the online T&L activities.

“UMP also thanked MOHE for providing a useful guideline and allowing the IHL to adapt with the situation in the respective institutions,” he said.

In addition, students are advised to abide by the rules to return to the campus, and those who need further information can call the UMP Operation Rooms at 09-549 3333 (UMP Gambang) and 09-424 6999 (UMP Pekan) for any relevant advice and procedures.

However, any changes are subject to the National Security Council (NSC) provisions from time to time.
