UMP extends helping hands for flood victims

PEKAN, 20 December 2021 - Following the heavy rains in the state, several locations have been hit by floods.

UMP has opened an operation room to coordinate assistance for its residents on both campuses over the past three days.

Professor Dato’ Ts. Yuserrie Zainuddin, who performs the function of the UMP Vice-Chancellor, said that the UMP disaster operation room in Gambang was operating with limited capacity on the first day.

“Although many staff and volunteers were affected by the floods and stranded due to the cut off and flooded roads, it is not an obstacle for them to help for the welfare and well-being of campus residents.

“Currently, the UMP Disaster Management Steering Committee has mobilised efforts to help channel food aid for staff and students, including evacuating those affected by the floods to a safer place,” he said.

As the Deputy Chairman of Yayasan UMP, he said that Yayasan UMP also allocated RM50,000 in preparation to help flood victims through emergency assistance for basic necessities, groceries, blankets and hygiene kits to the affected UMP staff and students.

Meanwhile, based on the current and recent flood situation in Kuantan and Pekan, the water level in some staff residential locations has started to recede.

He welcomed each Responsibility Centre (PTJ) to mobilise their respective staff to assist the affected staff, such as cleaning.

However, as a control and safety measure, Pekan/Gambang Operation Rooms must be notified for every cleaning activity from PTJ to update the movement record.

Volunteers are also advised to always adhere to the COVID-19 SOP to prevent transmission.

UMP has activated operation rooms, and those who need advice or more information can contact the disaster operation rooms at 09-549 3333 (Gambang) or 09-4246999 (Pekan) or refer to the UMP Flood Disaster Info at https://www.ump.edu.my/en/banjir.

Yayasan UMP also welcomes financial assistance from the public, industries, NGOs and philanthropists to the UMP Disaster Fund.

All donations can be channelled through https://bit.ly/3mhgKUg or Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank) account under Yayasan UMP: 556235317085.
