UMP launches Road Safety Campaign ‘Jom Pulang ke Kampung’

PAYA BESAR, 14 April 2023 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) launched a Road Safety Campaign ‘Jom Pulang ke Kampung’ with free petrol for students who return to the village in their own vehicles.

In the event, 880 UMP students received petrol e-coupons through the collaboration of Petronas KM26 Jalan Gambang and Petronas Peramu 2, Pekan before they took a long vacation for hari raya.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts.  Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed who performs the functions of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) was present to launch the event by participating in a convoy from UMP Gambang Campus to Petronas KM26 Jalan Gambang.

A road safety briefing was also delivered by the Director of Security Division, Mohd Nazri Samsudin involving 170 students with 50 motorcycles and 30 cars.

Also present were JHEPA General Manager Haryani Abdullah and UMP Student Services Director Mohd Raizalhilmy Mohd Rais.

According to Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim, this programme was carried out in support of the Road Safety Campaign and the Car Sharing Campaign, a UMP initiative to raise awareness and promote road safety for UMP students who will return to the village in conjunction with Aidilfitri.

“Most importantly, this campaign encourages students to share cars (ridesharing) for the same travel route and time when returning for the holidays so that they can play a role in reducing traffic congestion and carbon footprint.

“In addition, this effective step can provide knowledge to UMP students about the importance of road safety all the way back to the village and increase student compliance with road regulations,” he said.

In the meantime, this petrol e-coupon is a UMP Kasih initiative, originally a Meal Coupon for eligible students who are struggling to allow them to get free food at the campus cafeteria using the Adab@UMP app.

This UMP Kasih initiative has been improved with various other benefits and expanded in its usefulness by involving off-campus collaborators to benefit UMP students.
