UMP is ready to receive 6,334 students back on campus

PEKAN, 16 September 2021 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) is preparing to receive the physical admission of students starting 15 October, involving students who have the need to return to the campus and those who have been fully vaccinated.

It will be implemented in stages at both UMP campuses in Pekan and Gambang, in line with the announcement by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) recently.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), who is currently performing the functions of UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. currently the university has identified 6,334 students, including final year students who need to complete their studies according to the set time to return to the campus.

“Meanwhile, teaching and learning (T&L) activities beginning on 11 October will be conducted online.

“However, starting 15 October, it will be conducted in a hybrid mode (online and face-to-face) according to the requirements of the programmes.

“The university has also strengthened the standard operating procedures (SOP) on campus, including the need for vaccination for campus residents to create a safe campus bubble so that the spread of COVID-19 can be curbed,” he said.

In the meantime, they also intensified efforts to contact students who have not yet received vaccinations to get vaccinations at nearby Vaccine Administering Centres (PPV) before being allowed to return to the campus.

“Besides that, various initiatives in ensuring the welfare of students and several appropriate activities on campus are being considered to support the campus experience environment.

“The campus atmosphere has changed a little with the implementation of several SOPs for the safety and well-being of students on campus.

“The university has also developed a strategic approach to reduce the influx of COVID-19 infection from outside the campus and limit its spread when there is an infection on campus,” he said.

Currently, the Student Affairs Department (JHEP), in collaboration with the Academic & International Affairs Department (JHEAA), University Health Centre (PKU) and the Security Division (BKES), is coordinating the return of students into the campus.

UMP always observes the current situation and refers to the latest information from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) and the National Security Council (NSC).
