UMP receives 500 saplings for Alam@UMP programme

PEKAN, 11 October 2021 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) received 500 forest saplings for the Alam@UMP programme, a collaboration between the Centre of Industry and Community Network (ICoN) and Medal Lions Creative (MLC), a local company in the state.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, who performs the functions of the UMP Vice-Chancellor, was present to receive the donation from the Director of MLC, Muhamad Anas Aziz, in the programme at the Tun Abdul Razak Chancellery Building (CTAR), UMP Pekan.

Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie appreciated the commitment from the company in supporting the campus greening efforts.
“It can also increase environmental awareness through the involvement of universities and industries as well as intensify the joint venture activities in carrying out Alam@UMP programme with external parties,” he said.

Future collaboration was also discussed at the meeting, including the planning of Edutourism UMP programme, Ecotourism at Pantai Rekreasi Air Leleh, Kuala Pahang, which will benefit the area around UMP, and planting and sapling care programme that can generate income for students and the university.

Meanwhile, Muhamad Anas said his team is also seeking to increase the number of saplings to 5,000 to beautify the two UMP campuses in Pekan and Gambang for the success of the Alam@UMP programme.

The handing over of the saplings was also a continuation of the collaboration programme between UMP and MLC since 2016.
Hopefully, this collaboration will be a new starting point in supporting community activities in line with the university’s theme ‘Technology for Society’.

Both sides are currently reviewing plans and directions to further strengthen the relationship for future benefits.
