PEKAN, 26 October 2021 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) to assist engineering degree graduates in making bulk registration under the REA Registration of Engineers Act 1967.

The collaboration with BEM also involves Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Monash University Malaysia and University of Nottingham Malaysia.

The ceremony witnessed the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) who acts as the Vice-Chancellor of UMP, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin signed the agreement with BEM President, Dato’ Ir. Haji Mohamad Zulkefly Sulaiman.

According to Dato’ Ir. Haji Mohamad Zulkefly, this programme aims to achieve the objective of bulk registration for graduates.

“It is one of the efforts to elevate and strengthen the engineering profession in Malaysia, especially among graduates so that it can be strengthened and the ratio of registered engineers to the population is expected to be increased to 1:100,” he said in an online ceremony recently.

BEM also announced the handing over of RM10,000 as an award contribution to outstanding engineering graduates at the convocation ceremony later.

He said, the signing of this agreement provides an opportunity for prospective UMP graduates to graduate with recognised knowledge and experience after registering with BEM to become a professional engineer.

“Hopefully, it will be able to confer impact and benefits to engineering graduates.

“It is also in line with the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025 (UMP25) to produce holistic graduates who always strive to improve themselves in their field of competence,” he said.
