22 UMP researchers listed 2% world’s top scientists for two achievement categories

KUANTAN, 14 October 2022 - A total of 22 researchers from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) are listed as 2 per cent of the world’s top scientists for two achievement categories.

Of these, seven were listed in the Career-Long Achievement category and 21 in the Single Year Achievement category.

The researchers listed in both achievements are Dr. Sudhakar Kumarasamy from the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA), Professor Dr. Jayarama Reddy Venugopal, Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FSTI), Professor Dr. Jose Rajan (FSTI), Professor Dr. Rizalman Mamat (FTKMA), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Kumaran s/o Kadirgama (FTKMA), and Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli, Faculty of Computing (FK), who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation).

Meanwhile, Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Ashraf Ahmad from the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology (FTKEE) is listed in the Career-Long Achievement category.

This recognition is based on the data released by Elsevier BV, Stanford University based in the United States of America.

According to the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, this recognition is based on the Scopus database and includes comprehensive evaluation aspects.

“This recognition encourages interaction between local and international researchers and industries to pursue academic excellence in addition to creating research opportunities to solve global issues.

“It is in line with the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025 which will enable UMP to continue to achieve excellence in academia and research with the theme of Technology for Society.

“In fact, the focus is also on high-level TVET Excellence, innovation with industrial collaboration, high-impact technology empowerment, financial sustainability, university ecosystem excellence and graduate entrepreneurship,” he said.

Meanwhile, for the Single Year Achievement, 21 lecturers listed are Dr. Sudhakar Kumarasamy (FTKMA), Professor Dr. Jose Rajan (FSTI), and Professor Dr. Wan Azmi Wan Hamzah (FTKMA).

This also includes Dr. Rizalman Mamat (FTKMA), Professor Ir. Jayarama Reddy Venugopal (FSTI), Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Zularisam Ab. Wahid (FTKA), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Kumaran s/o Kadirgama (FTKMA), and Professor Ts. Md. Maksudur Rahman Khan (FTKKP), Ts. Dr. Norazlianie Sazali (FTKPM).

Also listed are Professor Ts. Dr. Md. Mustafizur Rahman (FTKMA), Ts. Dr. Ahmad Shahrizan Abdul Ghani (FTKPM), Associate Professor Dr. Ramadhansyah Putra Jaya (FTKA), Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli (FK), Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Wan Sharuzi Wan Harun (FTKMA), Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Herwan Sulaiman (FTKEE) and Professor ChM Dr. Mohd Hasbi Ab Rahim (FSTI).

Other lecturers include Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Mahendran s/o Samykano (FTKMA), Professor Ts. Dr. Jolius Gimbun (FTKKP), Professor ChM Dr. Chong Kwok Feng (FSTI), Ts. Dr. Ros Azlinawati Ramli (FSTI) and ChM Dr. Izan Izwan Misnon (FSTI).

Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie congratulated UMP associates who have achieved various successes to improve the university’s image at the higher education and global levels.

UMP will continue to excel in research and innovation in the future in an effort to enhance UMP’s technological capabilities through the number of high-impact product inventions and new discoveries or technologies that will greatly benefit the local and international community.

UMP has also recently been ranked 801 to 1,000 in Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) 2023.
