UMP wins Special Award and 14 gold medals in ITEX 2022
KUALA LUMPUR, 27 May 2022 - Research of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) won the Special Award, 14 gold medals and ten silver medals in the International Exhibition of Invention, Innovation and Technology 2022 (ITEX) held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on 26 and 27 May 2022.
The research product of Associate Professor Dr. Saiful Anwar Che Ghani from the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA) titled Smart-Steadi for Efficient Agarwood Essential Oil Extraction won the gold medal and the Best Invention Universities & Educational Institutions Special Award.
Associate Professor Dr. Saiful said, the Smart-Steadi innovation is used to increase the yield of agarwood oil extraction and at the same time reduce production costs.
“The idea of this innovation was initiated when I was involved in several studies in building industrial-scale agarwood processing facilities with local and foreign agarwood entrepreneurs.
“The agarwood business can be turned into an industry, for example, the collaboration of UMP under the Centre for Bioaromatic Research with PIJ Agarwood, a subsidiary of the state of Johor which is currently completing a 38-system agarwood extraction facility.
“The development of this industry in our country will open up more job opportunities to the community,” he said.
Meanwhile, the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin was proud and he expressed appreciation to the researchers with this achievement.
A total of 24 UMP research products exhibited in ITEX received recognition.
He was present to meet the researchers and see the research products on display.
Also present was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli.
ITEX is an annual exhibition of international inventions and innovations attended by researchers from within and outside the country.
