Golf Tournament strengthens family ties between UA

KUANTAN, 29 May 2022 - A total of 300 golfers from public universities (UA) competed in the 49th Public University Golf Tournament held for two days on 28 and 29 May 2022.

There were three tournament locations at Royal Pahang Golf Club, Kuantan, Royal Pekan Golf Club and Mahkota Golf and Country Club, Kuantan.

According to the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, this tournament could invigorate sportsmanship and strengthen the solidarity among the family of the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).

“This golf tournament can also be used as a platform to help the Pahang State Government promote edu-tourism in the state especially to the local golfers,” he said at the 49th Malaysia Inter-University Golf Tournament Prize Presentation Ceremony at the Royal Pahang Golf Club, Kuantan.

According to him, the meeting formed more networks among the participants to share their ideas and expertise.

He also hoped that the golf tournament will continue in the future to further strengthen the relationship and network between all golfers among the staff of public universities in Malaysia.

Four categories were contested in this tournament, namely gross, nett, VVIP and invitation.

UMP was also proud to be given the honour and trust to host this prestigious competition.

UMP was represented by ten players led by the UMP Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Abi Musa Asaari Mohamed Nor, UMP BOD member, Dato’ Mohd Sharil Abdullah and UMP Chief Financial Officer/Bursar, Zainudin Othman who participated in the VVIP Category.

The tournament saw Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) emerged as the overall champion in the 49th Malaysian Public University Golf Tournament.

They bagged three gold and one silver medals.

Meanwhile, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) came in second with two gold medals and UMP took third place with one gold.

The ceremony was also attended by the Secretary General of MoHE, Dato’ Seri Abdul Razak Jaafar.
