Wan Raizulhazmi lucky as Siswa Sulung UMP

KOTA BHARU, 9 October 2022 - A new student who will be checking in at Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) on 11 October 2022, Wan Raizulhazmi Syukrin Wan Rizman Zailani, did not expect the call he received brought him good news when he was informed that he had received KPT-UMP Sulung Scholarship.

Siswa Sulung refers to the only child or first child in a B40 family who successfully pursues study in universities and is offered to pursue a diploma and bachelor’s degree programme and receives Sulung Scholarship under Yayasan UMP.

Wan Raizulhazmi will receive a scholarship throughout his study in Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Mechatronics Engineering at UMP Pekan.

Present at his home to hand over the SULUNG Programme Scholarship Offer Letter and the donation was the Deputy Secretary General (Management and Development), Ministry of Higher Education, Datuk Dr. Mohd Zabri Yusoff.

Also present were Senior Manager, Student Affairs and Alumni Department (JHEPA), Haryani Abdullah, Chairman of the Council of Principals of the UMP Fellowship Institution cum the Principal of Student Residence 4, Nasrul Salim Pakheri and Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan UMP, Mohd Jamil Jaafar.

For Wan Raizulhazmi, his tireless effort is now rewarded.

As the eldest son, he takes on the responsibility of helping manage his family and siblings while his father, Wan Rizman Zailani Wan A. Rahman@Wan Ab Razak, a single father, goes out to work.

He also paid the UMP registration fee of RM2,000 using savings from his scholarship at the MARA Junior Science College (MRSM).

He also received a laptop, RM1,000 Education initiative and food basket donated by Yayasan UMP.

According to Datuk Dr. Mohd Zabri, this initiative aligns with the MoHE’s aspiration to introduce the Malaysian Family Eldest Student Development Programme (SULUNG) to help boost the economy of students from the B40 group.

“The SULUNG programme will focus on efforts to help B40 students whose family members have never set foot in the ivory tower.

“It is a motivation for other family members to improve academic performance,” he said.

It encourages his younger siblings, Wan Rairshamfazli Syafin, 17, Wan Raishaemielin Syafia, 16, Wan Rainssrullah Syamin, Wan Rainasrullah Syamin, 14 and Wan Raifhaizam Syaheen, 13 to follow their eldest brother’s footstep to excel in studies.

Meanwhile, according to Haryani, the student’s payment would be refunded when he is fully funded by Sulung Scholarship.
