Yayasan UMP provides free laptops for students

PEKAN, 16 April 2021 – Yayasan UMP provided 70 laptops to Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) students in need to ease their burden in adapting to the online learning sessions.
The delivery was presented by the Chairman of the Board of UMP, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman at the UMP Library recently.
In his speech, he said that the laptop contribution is an initiative by Yayasan UMP stemming from a collaboration between certain parties to help ease the burden of students in need.
“Thank you to the contributing parties who always support UMP’s efforts to help those in need.
“Th provision of laptops is a must in today’s current learning environment with the new norms that these students are practising.
“In the current situation, laptops are not a symbol of wealth, but a necessity for every student,” he said.
He hopes that every student can do their best and excel in their studies.
“Yayasan UMP is constantly attentive towards the welfare of UMP students and the local community besides collecting contributions from various parties to realise this aspiration,” he said.
Also present was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Dato’ Dr. Yusserrie Zainuddin.
According to one of the recipients, Siti Najihah Ikhsan, 20, the fifth child of six siblings, she was deeply grateful for the contribution.
She, a Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering student (a collaboration programme with the Karlsruhe University Of Applied Sciences, Germany), said that with her father’s income as a gardener, especially since the passing of her late mother, their financial need has become a constraint.
“Now my expenses are also aided by my older sister that I have even been using my sister’s laptop when she attended university before me.
“Even though the computer is over six years old, it can still be used even though the memory is quite slow and cannot support some software.
“With this new laptop, I am motivated to continue studying,” she said.
She appreciated the contribution of every party involved especially Yayasan UMP who is always concerned with the problems that the students are experiencing.
Every recipient received a Lenovo brand laptop and the criteria of the recipients are based on an assessment made by the UMP Zakat Assessment Committee under the management of the Student Affairs and Alumni Department.
