UMPSA establishes Rail Training Centre in collaboration with LZRVTC

KUANTAN, 11 December 2023 - The strategic collaboration between Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and Liuzhou Railway Vocational Technical College (LZRVTC) saw the establishment of a Rail Training Centre at the university to empower the field of rail engineering and technology that supports the National TVET Empowerment Agenda.

LZRVTC is an educational institution located in Guangxi, China, based on skills focused on rail technology and engineering, and it is a reference centre for the rail industry in southern China.

Taking place recently, the Plaque and Mock Cheque Handover Ceremony worth Renminbi 7.5 million or RM5.6 million for rail-related education involving programme activities, training modules and others for the benefit of students.

The UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin was present to receive a cheque replica donation and strategic collaboration for the establishment of the UMPSA Rail Training Centre presented by the President of Liuzhou Railway Vocational Technical College, Qin Haibo, witnessed by Menteri Besar Pahang, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Sri Haji Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

Also present were the Chairman of the UMPSA Board of Directors, Dato’ Seri Abdul Razak Jaafar, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Rail Link Sdn. Bhd. (MRL), Dato’ Seri Haji Darwis Abdul Razak, Deputy Director, Guangxi Zhang China Education Department, Wu Jinchang and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), UMPSA, Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman.

According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, UMPSA has a partnership with Malaysia Rail Link Sdn. Bhd. Excellence Awards (MRL) and China Communications Construction Company Ltd. (CCCC) in the Industrial Skills Training Programme of the East Coast Rail Link Project (PLKI-ECRL) from 2017 to 2022 and continued for another five years until 2027.

“UMPSA also collaborates with Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) China for a dual degree programme involving Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering which contributes to the development of the national rail industry since 2020 and the students of the programmes received scholarships from the Public Service Department (JPA).

“This collaboration also provides an opportunity for both parties to explore the potential of the ECRL project, including the provision of rail operation and maintenance training modules as well as academic collaboration in the form of open certification in this field as an added value to the graduate employability with premium salaries,” he said.

The China Communications Construction Company (M) Sdn. Bhd. (CCCC) is the lead contractor of engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning projects for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project and LZRVTC, Guangxi, China conducts TVET training for the ECRL workforce, which is a project owned by MRL.
