UMP donates 100 Mandarin books to school students

MARANG, May 30, 2023 - The Confucius Institute (CI) of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has donated 100 Mandarin books, videos, and dictionaries to Yayasan Terengganu Imtiaz Secondary School Marang, in an effort to assist the students in mastering the Mandarin language.

The donated books cover Mandarin language, past-year Chinese language skill examination questions, Chinese culture, literature, and tourism. 

The books also include various recent achievements in science and technology in China.

The book presentation was made by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, to the Deputy Director (Operations) of Yayasan Terengganu, Haji Megat Samsudin Megat Yusof, and Haji Wan Mohd Azman Wan Abdullah, the Principal of Yayasan Terengganu Imtiaz Secondary School Marang.

Also present at the event were the Education Counselor, Zhao Changtao, the Attaché, Zhang Tian both of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia, the Director of Confucius Institute (Malaysia), Yong Ying Mei, and the Director of Confucius Institute (China), Associate Professor Dr. Wang Haiyan.

According to Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad, he hopes that these video and dictionary books can help students and teachers here to gain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the Mandarin language.

"UMP has a collaboration program with Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) China for the Dual Degree Program of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) in the field of engineering, which contributes to the development of the railway industry in this country.

"In addition, UMP is also involved in other collaborations with universities in China, including a dual degree program with Tianjin University (TJU) and a cooperation programme with Ningxia University (NXU)," he said.

He further stated that this book donation will benefit the students of Yayasan Terengganu Imtiaz Secondary School Marang, which is one of the schools with students studying Mandarin from Form 1 to Form 4, following the Chinese Language Proficiency Test curriculum.

Other schools include Yayasan Terengganu Imtiaz Secondary School in Besut, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Berang, Dungun, and Kemaman.
