UMPSA Bridge Run attracts over 2000 participants

PEKAN, 2 September 2023 - More than 2,000 participants crossed the Sultan Abu Bakar Bridge in Pekan during the UMPSA Pekan Bridge Run 2023, held in conjunction with the 21st Anniversary and the Rebranding of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), which took place recently.

The event was graced by His Royal Highness the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Mahkota Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who also participated in the 5 km run.

Present at the event were the Chairman of the University Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed.

According to Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, this running me also introduced the town of Pekan, which is also known as the Royal Town.

"There were two categories of the run, which were five kilometers and ten kilometers.

"The route started from Hotel Ancasa and then crossed the Sultan Abu Bakar Bridge to Pekan town.

"Undoubtedly, the route was more attractive, providing participants with the opportunity to run while enjoying the beauty and harmony of the Royal Town and its surroundings along the way," he said.

Furthermore, the organization of this programme also added vibrancy to the National Month celebration and Malaysia Day while promoting a healthy lifestyle among UMPSA members and the local community.

With the concept of a fun run, the organization of this programme is one of the initiatives to fulfil corporate social responsibility (CSR) and simultaneously promote Pekan as a tourist destination in the state of Pahang Darul Makmur.

He expressed his highest appreciation and gratitude to the strategic collaboration partners, including the Ministry of Unity, for their support in making this programme a success.

Also involved were UMW, UMP Advanced, UMP Holdings, the Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council of Pahang (MUIP), the Peramu Jaya Assemblyman, Adabi Consumer Industries Sdn. Bhd. (Adabi), Extrajoss, and others who provided sponsorship and contributions to make this programme a success.

The programme was also attended by secondary school students, higher education institutions (IPT), athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and the local community, all coming together to add to the vibrancy of this programme.

It is also part of the university's branding activities and in conjunction with UMP's 21st Anniversary celebrations, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) agenda and evaluating the university's efforts in addressing global issues related to the environment, social, and governance (ESG).

Additionally, there were exhibitions and free health check-up services, including booths from the Department of Unity, Sg. Lembing Museum, National Archives, UMW, UMPSA (UMPSA Kilau Volunteers and Innovation Exhibition), Beacon Hospital, DMMC Hospital, Adabi Consumer Industries Sdn. Bhd. (Adabi), and the State Assembly Office.

Also present were the Pahang State Exco for Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports, and Non-Governmental Organizations, representing the Chief Minister of Pahang, Yang Berhormat Fadzli Mohamad Kamal; the Pahang State Exco for Investment, Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Yang Berhormat Dato' Mohamad Nizar Dato' Sri Mohamad Najib; the Pahang State Exco for Works, Transportation, and Health, Yang Berhormat Dato' Haji Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff; and the Pahang State Secretary, Dato' Sri Haji Zulkifli Haji Yaacob.

Other attendees included the Member of Parliament for Pekan, Dato' Sri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali, the Pekan District Officer, Dato’ Zaliza Zulkipli, and the Director of Pahang Unity, Amira Abdullah.
