UMPSA Student Parliament discusses 4 core proposals
PEKAN, 3 December 2023 - The Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Student Parliament (UMPSA) successfully held its third session over two days at the UMPSA Senate Hall in Pekan.
The session was attended by a total of 102 House Members for the UMPSA Student Parliament, including the President/Chairman of clubs registered at the Department of Student and Alumni Affairs (JHEPA) and members of the Student Representative Council (MPP).
Four core motions were debated, covering Welfare, Academic, Empowerment, and Student Development, as well as Policy Amendments and Current Issues.
The opening ceremony of the Student Parliament Session 2/2023 No. 3 was completed by the Deputy Speaker of the Pahang State Assembly, the Honourable Lee Chin Chen.
Also, present were the Director of ADAB Academy and the Deputy Speaker of Hall 2, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Nizam Mohmad Kahar, General Manager of JHEPA, Haryani Abdullah, and Yang di-Pertua Executive Caretaker, MPP UMPSA, Agha Khilfi Suarno.
The Honourable Lee Chin Chen congratulated all council members for their enthusiasm during the motion presentation session, highlighting the creativity and thoughtfulness of their ideas.
"I am very excited about the greatness of all the council members who participated and successfully presented thoughtful arguments.
“The Student Parliament is the best platform for students to gain experience in debating and become members of the UMPSA Student Parliament, offering a real experience in the debate arena in the Malaysian Parliament-style conference hall," he said.
He urged all delegation members to take advantage of the opportunities available to express thoughtful arguments in accordance with the set rules.
"It is hoped that more students will participate in this activity, and the proposals presented should be shared with the management to exchange ideas," he added.
Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Nizam highlighted that the implementation of the Student Parliament is an effort and the result of energy mobilization by UMPSA students themselves, as a preparatory step towards establishing the UMPSA Student Union.
This union would give full authority to students in managing activities, administration, and financial matters.
"UMPSA is committed to producing skilled students through the application of MADANI values in student programs on campus.
“The implementation of the UMPSA Student Parliament proves that student welfare issues are consistently addressed, providing a positive campus life experience to all students as the main stakeholders in the university," he explained.
He commended the council members, secretariat, and executive committee for their hard work in making the council meeting a success and expressed hope that this Student Parliament would be a catalyst for change and improvement at UMPSA.
At the same time, he presented the Best Discussant prize to Ibrahim Ismail Ahmad, a representative from the Institute of Engineering Malaysia UMPSA Club (IEM-UMPSA).
