UMPSA and Tianjin University offer Dual Degree programme

TIANJIN CHINA, 5 December 2023 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) made an official working visit to Tianjin University (TJU) to prepare for the Dual Degree programme between UMPSA and TJU.

The delegation was led by the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP), Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Sumaiya Zainal Abidin, Director of Confucius Institute (Malaysia), Yong Ying Mei, Director of the Centre for Industry and Community Linkages, Associate Professor Dr. Chin Sim Yee and Senior Manager, Research and Innovation Department, Rosilavi Mat Jusoh.

Present to greet the delegation of the Vice President of TJU, Professor Gong Jinlong, Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Professor Fan Xiaobin, Assistant Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Associate Professor Liu Hongli, Director of the Office of the School of International Education, Professor Li Qiang and Director of the Office of International Cooperation, Dr. Zhang Zhen.

According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, UMPSA and TJU signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) for the offering of the UMPSA-TJU Dual Degree programme in 2021.

 “Currently, a total of 16 UMPSA first year students are attending the first cohort of the UMPSA-TJU Dual Degree programme.

“These students will continue their studies at TJU in the third and fourth years,” he said.

Those who take the UMPSA-TJU Dual Degree programme will study Mandarin at UMPSA and are required to pass the International Mandarin Fluency Test (HSK) level three and then continue learning Mandarin at TJU and pass HSK 4 before graduating in the fourth year at TJU.

At the same time, UMPSA delegates also visited the TJU campus such as dormitories, canteens, School of International Education, School of Chemical Engineering and Technology and faculty laboratories.

Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie also encouraged UMPSA students to join the mobility programme to TJU and FTKKP staff to become visiting professors.

Meanwhile, the collaboration between UMPSA and TJU which began in 2016 also saw three UMPSA students successfully receive Chinese scholarships to attend the Mandarin Language and Chinese Culture Programme at TJU by obtaining excellent HSK results.

In addition, UMPSA became a member of the ASEAN-China Network for Cooperation and Exchanges among Engineering and Technology University (ACNET-EngTech) in 2020.

UMPSA also collaborates with TJU in organising conferences and as forum panels and visiting professors at TJU.
