Courtesy Visit by UMPSA’s NC to meet the Honourable Chief Minister of Sabah

KOTA KINABALU, 27 September 2023 - A delegation from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, who is also the Deputy Chairman of the UMPSA Foundation, met with the Honourable Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, at the Chief Minister's Office in Kota Kinabalu recently.

Also present was the Public Relations Secretary, Mr. Haji Effendi Mohamed Sunoh.

According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, this meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss efforts to enhance education for underprivileged children and families in Sabah, as well as efforts to expand TVET education in the state.

"This meeting also discussed proposals for establishing satellite campuses in Sabah," he said.

"We also discussed the potential for dual degree academic programmes between UMPSA and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes in several locations in Sabah.

"UMPSA is currently in the early stages of establishing branch campuses in Sabah to provide access to higher education, especially in the fields of manufacturing, oil, and gas," he added.

He further explained that for sustainability agendas, renewable energy, food security, and the utilization of UMPSA's expertise in research and innovation for the benefit of the community were discussed.

Proposals for collaboration with the Sabah State Government to improve the quality of outstanding graduates by establishing the Sabah Child Academic Excellence Award for Sabahan students who excel academically and in extracurricular activities were also discussed.

Also present were members of the UMPSA Foundation Board of Trustees, Farrah Ain Madzlan, UMPSA Board of Directors member Madyasir Ahmad Basir, and the Chief Executive Officer of UMPSA Foundation, Mohd Jamil Mohd Ja’afar.

At present, UMPSA has a total of 654 students from Borneo, including 381 students from Sabah.
