UMPSA will collaborate with Beifang International Education Group on TVET development

PEKAN, 17 April 2024 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) will collaborate with Beifang International Education Group (Beifang) in the development of higher education, especially in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) which will utilise expertise sharing related to electric vehicles (EV), artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IoT), solar and information technology.

This strategic collaboration involves the Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Pekerja Berkemahiran (BELIA MAHIR) and TANG International Education (China) under the efforts of Malaysia-China Institute (MCI) through China’s Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) to improve skills for TVET students in Malaysia.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, it was a return visit from UMPSA’s official visit to Beijing, China in March to explore opportunities in the field of TVET, career development and graduate employability.

“In addition, the outcome of this collaboration saw the success of the Malaysia-China Advance TVET Mobility (MyCHAT24) programme to China involving 18 UMPSA students in improving their skills in the field of artificial intelligence for two weeks. 

“Therefore, this meeting provides an opportunity for both parties to discuss the collaboration programme and the preparation of documentation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Beifang, MCI and UMPSA which will be signed soon,” he said.

Also discussed was the development of research, industry advisory, the need for sharing expertise and equipment in improving training as well as the skills of students and staff in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) technology, solar energy, electric vehicles, automotive and hydrogen.

Other initiatives include student exchange and collaboration to expand mobility programmes with TVET certification from training institutions or industries in China to increase premium graduate employability as well as educational tourism (edu-tourism).

Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim was present to welcome the arrival of the delegation attended by the Director of International Business of Beifang International Education, Han Lili, the General Manager of Tang Chinese Education Malaysia/China, Tan Yu Chyan and the Head of BELIA MAHIR, Mohammad Rizan Hassan.

Also present were the BELIA MAHIR advisor, Koh Sing Yee and the Special Officer of the Chairman of Malaysia China Institute, Mr. Noor Hafizudin.

Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts.  Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, Legal Advisor, Marlina Mamat, Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Academic Development, Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Yusoh, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of the Center for Industry and Community Network (PJIM), Professor Datin Ts. Dr. Mimi Sakinah Abdul Munaim, deans of faculty and directors.

The delegates were also brought to visit the Central Engineering Laboratory, Makers Lab, Industrial Design Laboratory and Smart Campus Autonomous Vehicle (SCAV) Laboratory at the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA) and the Advanced TVET Central Laboratory at UMPSA Pekan.
