Accompanied by brother to receive BASF Petronas Chemical Excellence Award

The recipient of the Excellence Award of BASF Petronas Chemical Sdn. Bhd. at the Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) 18th Convocation Ceremony, Amir Syarifuddin Baharudin, 24, was excited but somewhat saddened when he could not celebrate this special day with his loved ones.

He was only accompanied by his brother when he received the Excellence Award from the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin at the recent Fifth Session of UMPSA 18th Convocation Ceremony.

While there were only a few weeks left for Amir to celebrate his success, his beloved father passed away from stage 4 bowel cancer on 18 September 2023.

Originally from Malacca, Amir is the seventh child of the late Baharudin Ismail, 66, and Mariah Othman, 65, from eight siblings.

“Who is not happy after completing higher education and wants to share the joy with their parents,” he said, accompanied by his brother, Badrul Amin Baharudin, 26, since his mother was still in the iddah period.

Using the pension of his late father who was a retired firefighter, Amir continued his study and pursued his ambitions as a lecturer of high calibre.

He is currently pursuing his PhD in chemical engineering at UMPSA.
