Free Ramadan iftar for UMP students

PEKAN, 14 April 2021 - A total of 1,200 free food packs are distributed daily to students of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) during Ramadan.

The preparation of this free iftar results from the contributions and donations from the public and external organisations to UMP students for Ramadan this year.

There are two distribution locations at Level 1 Student Activities Centre, UMP Pekan and UMP Mosque Gambang Campus, with the help of staff and UMP students volunteers daily.

According to the director of the UMP Islamic and Human Development Centre (PIMPIN), Associate Professor Dr. Rashidi Abbas, Yayasan UMP is aiming for RM174,000 for iftar during this Ramadan.

“Alhamdulillah, until today, a total of RM164,000 has been successfully raised through the Ramadan Fund.

Among these contributors include the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP), Telekom Malaysia, UMP Women’s Association (Matahari) and other contributors.

“Gratitudes are also extended to the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) for donating bubur lambuk (rice porridge) and food donations by MyFund Action Pahang for students,” he said.

Yayasan UMP also received a donation of Aureiz brand hand soap hygiene kit sponsored by Medieva Sdn. Bhd. to ensure hygienic care is always given priority.

In addition, in collaboration with the Department of Student Affairs, Yayasan UMP took the initiative to distribute 100 sets of Ramadan aid kits to the off-campus students living in rental houses.

He hopes that this contribution can ease the burden of students and please them as they are busy with academic assignments during Ramadan.

There are no gotong-royong activities in preparing meals under the new norms.

In fact, the students did not have the opportunity to enjoy the iftar food in trays that has become a tradition in UMP due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
