Students welcome UMP Menu Kasih set

PAYA BESAR, 8 July 2022 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) introduced UMP Menu Kasih dish set for students on campus in line with the desire of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) so that Higher Education Institutions (IPT) provide food sales on campus with a ceiling price of RM3.50 for each meal through the initiative of Siswa Keluarga Malaysia Food Basket.

The quality food menu initiative with a price as low as RM3.50 per meal was welcomed by students and they appreciated the efforts of the university and UMP cafeteria entrepreneurs to ease the burden of students.

According to the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, the results of the discussion of the Student Affairs and Alumni Department (JHEPA) with the cafeterias found that the cafeterias were willing to provide a win-win package on campus by offering Menu Kasih set costing RM3.50 per meal.

“This proposed UMP Menu Kasih set involves selected cafeterias at both UMP campuses in Pekan and Gambang,” he said.

Nine initiatives or coupons are provided under Food@Campus Malaysia UMP Family including UMP Kasih, UMP Pek Kasih Sayang and UMP Campus Pantry.

Others are YaPEIM and UMP Iftar (every Monday and Thursday) at UMP Mosque, UMP Food for All, UMP Bakul Prihatin Yayasan, UMP Traveller and UMP Kerantina.

For a student of the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA), Muhamad Ilham Fariez, this initiative is the best step in helping students.

“All UMP students are indeed very happy and welcome the steps taken by this government that help alleviate the cost of living of IPT students, especially the B40 group,” he said.

Meanwhile, a student of the College of Engineering (KKEJ), Haze Chua Si Jie said, the initiative was very much awaited by students because it could ease their daily cost burden.

“Such programmes are very appropriate and timely to safeguard the welfare of underprivileged students.

“The price of RM3.50 implemented with several menu options is sufficient for the daily food needs of students here,” he said.

However, he suggested that the programme be implemented thoroughly on campus since it is currently only carried out in certain cafeterias.

IPT students are among those who are also affected by the increase in the cost of living and the increase in goods prices.

Hence, the government’s move to introduce Menu Keluarga Malaysia in the IPT cafeterias to address the rising living cost among university students certainly pleased students.
