Singgah Sahur UMP for orphans and security agencies

KUANTAN, April 15, 2023 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) spent time with 41 orphans at the Hembusan Kasih Sayang Care Centre in Taman Guru and met frontliners at the Kuantan Fire and Rescue Station and Indera Mahkota Police Station to distribute sahur meals.

More than ten vehicles with about 40 UMP KILAU volunteers along with the members of UMP Board of Directors and the Yayasan UMP Board of Trustees converged on selected destinations to distribute 250 packets of sahur meals, from 10:30 pm until 1:30 am.

Also present were the Chairman of the UMP Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, Members of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan UMP, Dato’ Ts. Izwan Hasli Mohd Ibrahim and Datin Nur Sharmila Shaheen as well as Chairman of the UMP Advanced Board of Directors, Dato’ Mohd Sharil Abdullah who is also a member of LPU UMP.

Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed who performs the functions of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) and Registrar, Saiful Bahri Ahmad Bakarim.

According to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz, besides meeting the orphans and frontliners, this programme aimed to share sustenance by delivering sahur meals.

“This programme not only provides an opportunity to meet the residents of the care centre but fosters self-realisation and gratitude,” he said, who also presented duit raya for the children and Bakul Rahmah UMP to the Chairman of the Hembusan Kasih Sayang Care Centre, Ustaz Muhd Muizuddin Abdullah Hashim.

In addition to strengthening the relationship between agencies in the state, the visit could indirectly express appreciation to officers who serve the country, in addition to celebrating Ramadan.

Kuantan Fire and Rescue Station Task Force Supervisor, Alif Hafizul Mohammad was grateful for UMP’s concern in implementing this initiative and hoped it would continue.

Present to greet the volunteers, the Supervisor of the Indera Mahkota Police Station, SM Nordin Mohamed Shukur and the Kuantan Fire and Rescue Station was represented by Wan Hasarul Khairi Wan Hassan.

This Singgah Sahur Programme is implemented every year in Ramadan to bring the university closer to the community in line with the slogan ‘Technology for Society’ and uplift the volunteering agenda among university residents.
