UMPSA celebrates 4,854 graduands starting this Saturday

GAMBANG, 20 October 2023 - The 18th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) today saw a total of 4,854 graduands for 2023 consisting of doctor of philosophy (70), master (161), bachelor (2,181), dual degree (34) and diploma (961) and UMPSA Advanced lifelong learning program graduands (1,447) receiving their respective degrees and diplomas from 21 to 24 October at the Sports Complex Hall UMPSA Gambang Campus.

Of these, 81 were international graduates from 14 countries.

Present to chair the press conference to introduce the recipients of awards was the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.

Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, Registrar, Dato’ Saiful Bahri Ahmad Bakarim and Director of the Centre for Academic Management, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Shahrir Mohd Sani.

The UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainudin said the UMPSA Chancellor, His Majesty Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah will depart for the proclamation ceremony of His Majesty the Regent of Pahang Tengku Mahkota Tengku Hasanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah as the UMPSA Pro-Chancellor.

His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong will also confer the title of Emeritus Professor to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Mortaza Mohamed, which is the highest academic award for various contributions that have been devoted to national universities and higher education.

“His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong will also confer degrees and awards of excellence to a total of 79 recipients of master’s and doctoral degrees including nine awards of excellence in conjunction with the Convocation Ceremony which will take place in Session 1.

“Meanwhile, Session 2 will see a total of 711 graduands receive their degrees, including 20 recipients of awards and prizes of excellence on the first day (21 October 2023).

“Out of the total, 34 graduands will receive two degrees in the UMP-HKA Dual Degree programme in collaboration with the German Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) which is now entering its 13th year focusing on Automative Engineering and Mechatronic Engineering,” he said.

Meanwhile, the collaboration with Hochschule Reutlingen (HsRT) involves Business Engineering.

The UMP Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Abi Musa Asa’ari Mohamed Nor will confer the degrees of Master by Research, Master of Mixed Mode and Master by Coursework as well as the degrees of Bachelor’s Dual Degree, Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma in Session 2.

In Session 3 on the second day will see the conferment of degrees to 991 graduands including 31 recipients of awards and prizes.

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Abi Musa will deliver the award of Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma from the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology (FTKA), Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA) and Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM).

The UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin will present the award of Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Industrial Science and Technology (FSTI), Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronics Engineering Technology (FTKPM) and Faculty of Industrial Management (FPI) involving a total of 824 graduands including 33 recipients of awards and prizes of excellence in Session 4 making a total of 1,815 graduands on the second day (22 October 2023) of the convocation ceremony.

On the third day (24 October 2023), the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin will also deliver the degree to a total of 811 graduands from the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP) and Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology (FTKEE).

Meanwhile, 1,447 UMPSA Advanced graduands will receive their degrees and diplomas.

According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, the graduate employability of UMPSA graduands managed to surpass 98%, where 98.67% found employment.

“The university is also proud of the achievements of researchers when a total of 21 UMPSA researchers are listed as the World's Top 2% Scientist released by Elsevier BV, Stanford University,” he said, congratulating the success of the graduands.

Also, a total of four UMPSA researchers were awarded Top Researchers Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) 2023 by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia.

They are Professor ChM Dr. Mohd Hasbi Ab Rahim and Professor Dr. Chong Kwok Feng from FSTI, Professor Ts. Dr. Jolius Gimbun from FTKKP and Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Kumaran a/l Kadirgama from FTKMA.

The 2023 Conference of ASM Fellowship & Recognition of Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) was held at the Bukit Kiara Resort & Hotel, Kuala Lumpur recently.

Since the first convocation ceremony in 2006, UMPSA has produced 39,664 graduates in various fields of study at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
