Drive-through hostel registration for new UMP students

Kuantan, 8 August 2020 - For the first time, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) received a total of 822 new diploma students of the 2020/2021 academic session who registered via drive-through mode.

Six programmes are offered this time, namely Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health, Diploma in Computer Science, Diploma in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Diploma in Chemical Engineering and Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Industrial Electronics).

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. said this method was implemented to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).

“Students came only for hostel registration because the registration of new students for the diploma programmes of the 2020/2021 academic session was done online on 20 to 25 July 2020.

“This time, parents only need to drop off students at the entrance and only students are allowed to enter the hostel area.

“At the same time, we emphasise on SOP compliance such as physical distancing, the use of face masks and hand sanitiser in the hostel area to avoid any possibilities,” he said.

Hari Suai Kenal (orientation day) involving new students was also held online on 2 August 2020, which was broadcasted through the Zoom application and UMP Malaysia Facebook page from 8.00 am to 10.00 pm.

For twins Muhammad Nur Mirza Hassan and Muhammad Nur Izzat, 18, they were thrilled when they were offered the same programme of Diploma in Chemical Engineering at UMP.

Even more surprisingly, they were selected to receive the UMP Foundation Education Incentive of RM1,000 on the first day of registration.

“This money surely eases our financial hardship in UMP.

“I would like to thank the UMP management that is very concerned about the problems of students who have financial problems like us,” said Muhammad Nur Izzat who was grateful to be housed in the same room with his twin.

In addition to this twin pair, 19 new students who registered in UMP to further their diploma studies for the 2020/2021 session received an Education Incentive Assistance Scheme worth RM1,000.

This UMP Foundation initiative is to help alleviate financial hardship, especially during the registration day.
