Seminar on Global Classroom (GC) 2023: Bringing the World into the Classroom

PEKAN, 4 July 2023 - The Centre for Modern Languages (CML), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has been making significant strides in the realm of global education with its Global Classroom initiative, as demonstrated through the monthly appreciation posters created by the Centre of Instructional Resources and E-Learning (CIREL). 

To showcase its accomplishments and insights, the E-Learning Unit of CML convened the "Seminar on Global Classroom 2023: Bringing the World into the Classroom" on 4 July 2023, from 10 am to 12 pm at Bilik Mesyuarat Utama, Pusat Bahasa Moden, UMPSA Pekan.

This seminar was a result of the tireless efforts of the E-Learning Unit, Centre for Modern Languages, led by Dr. Nor Yazi Khamis. 

The driving force behind the event was  Kang Mei Feng, a dedicated Mandarin language teacher from the Department of Foreign Languages within the Centre for Modern Languages, who ensured the seamless execution of the seminar. 

This seminar convened an assembly of seven esteemed guest speakers, each renowned in their respective disciplines, to provide profound insights and knowledge on the Global Classroom. Mr. Khairul Bahri Abd Samad assumed the role of moderator for this event.

Ms. Neo Xiu Jie, commenced the seminar with a captivating presentation titled 'What is Global Classroom?' She delved into the essence of this innovative approach to education, setting the stage for a comprehensive exploration of the concept.

Azlina Mohd Ariffin followed with her talk on 'Basic Global Classroom,' elucidating the fundamental aspects of integrating global education into traditional classrooms. 

Next, Kang Mei Feng and Dr. Ruhil Amal Azmuddin joined forces to shed light on 'Standard Global Classroom: A New Way to Learn.' 

Their presentation unveiled the intricacies of a standard Global Classroom model.

After that, Ms. Rosjuliana Hidayu Rosli took the audience on a journey towards advanced global education in her presentation 'Upgrading to Advanced GC.' 

She highlighted the pathways for educators and learners to advance their Global Classroom experiences. 

The seminar reached its apex with the captivating presentation by Amy Zulaikha Mohd Ali and Jamilah Bebe Mohamad titled 'The Boons of Global Classroom.' 

These speakers illuminated the myriad benefits that the Global Classroom model offers, from fostering cultural understanding to enhancing language proficiency.

Throughout the seminar, the speakers also shared their experiences of collaborating with educators or industries from Indonesia, Brunei, India, Saudi Arabia, Spain, United Kingdom, Canada, and many others. 

The attendees were engaged in interactive discussions and Q&A sessions that deepened their understanding of the Global Classroom initiative. 

The event was a resounding success, with participants leaving with a renewed enthusiasm for incorporating global education principles into their teaching and learning practices. 

Dr. Nor Yazi Khamis expressed her profound satisfaction with the outcome of the seminar, stating, "The Global Classroom initiative has the potential to revolutionize the way we teach and learn languages. 

This seminar has been a pivotal step in raising awareness and understanding of its benefits." 

The Seminar on Global Classroom 2023 has set the stage for further exploration and adoption of this initiative. 
It serves as a testament to the dedication of UMPSA's Centre for Modern Languages in pushing the boundaries of language education, bringing the world into the classroom, and fostering global citizenship among its students and educators.
