UMP among the world’s top 150 young universities
Pekan, 24 June 2020 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) is listed among the 101–150 top universities under 50 years old in the QS Top 50 Under 50 ranking announced by the international ranking agency QS Quacquarelli Symonds recently.
This year saw UMP listed for the second time and the only university in the Malaysian Technological University Network (MTUN) to be listed in this group.
At 18 years old, UMP is seen capable of providing quality education, research, community service and industry involvement on par with other big names.
Currently, UMP has produced 26,217 graduates with graduate employability of 96%.
According to the Director of the Centre for Corporate and Quality Affairs, Dr. Mohd Hanafiah Ahmad, in an effort to strengthen the role of UMP in developing higher education in the high level of technical and vocational education and training (TVET), the UMP Strategic Plan 2021–2025 is developed will focus more on efforts to enhance the technical capabilities of the country.
“Among them is through the offering of academic programs that are driven by the industry aimed at producing holistic high level TVET graduates.
“Focus is also given to the collaboration networking between UMP and the industry to enhance the technical capabilities of both parties further.
“At the same time, the emphasis is also given to the element of new knowledge exploration through the research and innovation in the related fields,” he said.
To achieve this goal, the elements of financial sustainability and strengthening the university ecosystem are also emphasised in the strategic plan as envisaged by the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff.
He said, “This continuous effort will make UMP a young university that can play a vital role in improving the technical capabilities of the country.”
This announcement also saw Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) became the first university in Malaysia to be ranked as the 10th best university under 50 years in the world, followed by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) at the 13th spot, Taylor’s University (49) and UCSI University (51–60).
The other universities are Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) (61-70), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM, 81–90), Management and Science University (MSU, 81–90) and International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM, 91–100).
Also listed in the 101–150 group are Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and Sunway University.
