UMP students continue their studies online, postpone entering campus

Pekan, 5 October 2020 - Concerned about the current situation with the increase in positive COVID-19 cases in the country, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has announced the postponement of all new and senior students who are scheduled to register at both UMP Pekan and Gambang campuses starting this October.

This decision was made by referring to the media statement of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) dated 2 October 2020, on the Postponement of Physical or Face-to-Face Registration for Students of Higher Education Institutions (IPT) October 2020 Admission recently.

For new students, they do not need to be physically present or face-to-face but they need to register online from 5 to 9 October 2020 according to the registration procedure informed through the official website of UMP.

They will follow the implementation of Student Induction Week (MINDS) according to the online schedule and the date of physical attendance to campus will be informed according to the development of the current situation.

According to the Vice-Chancellor of UMP, Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff, all senior students who have not returned to campus must also postpone their return until a date to be announced later.

“Meanwhile, students who have been on campus are advised to remain on campus and fully comply with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by prioritizing safety measures.

"Teaching and Learning (T&L) activities will be implemented online and for students who have internet access problems should contact and discuss with the dean or lecturer of their respective courses," he said.

He further explained that the extension from the UMP Senate (Special) which convened on 4 October  2020, has decided the Final Examination of Semester II Academic Session 2019/2020 (Phase 2) and Short Semester, Academic Session 2019/2020 is implemented online.

“The implementation of the final examination online will be conducted by the lecturer who teaches the course through the KALAM platform or the online platform that the lecturer thinks is appropriate.

“While the implementation period of the Final Examination of Semester II Academic Session 2019/2020 (Phase 2) has been changed from 5 to 16 October 2020 to 7 to 16 October 2020.

"For the course scheduled for the examination on 5 October 2020, the examination is postponed to 10 October 2020 (Saturday) and for the course scheduled for the examination on 6 October 2020, the examination is postponed to 11 October 2020 (Sunday)."

Meanwhile, for the courses scheduled for the examination on 7 to 16 October 2020 remains the same as the existing schedule.

Similarly, the implementation period of the Final Examination of Semester II Academic Session 2019/2020 (Phase 3) scheduled on 19 to 30 October 2020 for students attending Industrial Training, and the implementation period of the Final Examination of the Short Semester, Academic Session 2019/2020 scheduled on 12 to 16 October 2020 remains as usual.

He added that in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, the university hopes that all parties can play their respective roles in ensuring that academic activities and service delivery of the university can be implemented well and effectively.

He also advised all parties to be patient on this test and continue to pray to Allah SWT that we all avoid this Covid-19 threat.

“Department Heads (PTJ) and UMP students also need to take precautionary measures in preventing the risk of spreading COVID-19.

"UMP will continue to monitor the development of this epidemic through information obtained from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) and the advice of the National Security Council (MKN) and MOHE," he said.

As for the examination, students can contact the Academic Management Centre at 09-549 2550 (UMP Gambang Campus) and 09-424 5252 (UMP Pekan) or contact the Administration Office at the Faculty/College of Engineering/Centre respectively.
