UMP's ‘Ziarah Kasih’ visits SPM 11A high-achieving student

BACHOK, 14 June 2023 - A delegation from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) visited and paid respects to Muhammad Syahril Saidi, an outstanding student from Sekolah Menengah Ugama (A) Darul Iman, Beris Lalang, Bachok, Kelantan.

His story went viral due to his sacrifice in taking care of his sick mother, which did not hinder him from achieving excellent results in the SPM examination, obtaining 11A in the recently announced SPM results on June 8, 2023.

Muhammad Syahril, the youngest of five siblings, devoted his time to taking care of his mother, who has been unwell since their father's passing 11 years ago.

However, Muhammad Syahril was once again tested when his beloved mother, Tuan Faridah Tuan Ismail, who had been suffering from a neurological disorder for the past four years, recently passed away.

Present to meet and interact with the student and his family were Zainal Bahari, Director of the Marketing and Academic Intake Centre, and Hazmin Aris, Senior Manager of the Academic and International Affairs Department (JHEAA). They attended on behalf of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs) to deliver contributions of essential goods from the UMP Foundation.

According to Zainal, this visit reflects UMP's concern and provides higher education consultation services for students who have achieved excellent results in the 2022 SPM at the student's residence in Kampung Kandis, Bachok, Kelantan.

"This meeting also serves to convey words of encouragement and motivation to this student to excel in higher education, to transform their family's lives for the better, as well as to provide guidance on academic directions when making decisions about choosing a field of study that aligns with their qualifications," he said.

Meanwhile, Hazmin considers Muhammad Syahril's remarkable achievement to be extraordinary. Not only did he show great resilience in caring for his ailing mother, but he also successfully faced the examination and achieved excellent results.

He stated that Muhammad Syahril's success could serve as inspiration for all of us, emphasizing the importance of taking care of our parents throughout their lives, even while being occupied with various other matters.

Furthermore, they also had the opportunity to meet with the school principal, Noor Ruziana Ismail, to establish a strategic collaboration that enables academic programs to be conducted for the benefit of the students in that school.
