UMPSA establishes collaboration with D-8 International University, Iran, enhancing international cooperation

IRAN, 9 October 2023 - A formal working visit by a higher education delegation, led by the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, to the Islamic Republic of Iran recently witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMPSA and D-8 International University.

In this programme, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie represented UMPSA, accompanied by the Director of the Centre for International Relations, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Azmir Mohd Azhari. 

Meanwhile, D-8 International University was represented by its Chancellor, Professor Dr. Abbas Afkhami, and the Advisor of D-8IU, Dr. Mazaher Ahmadi.

The event was also attended by the Honourable Minister of Higher Education, Dato' Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, and TYT Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam (Nigeria), who is also the Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8).

According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, through this MoU, UMPSA will collaborate in academic, research, publishing, administration, sabbatical, and industrial advisory fields.

"Additionally, it will also involve short-term specialized programmes for undergraduate studies, dual degrees for undergraduate level, and postgraduate degrees," he stated.

Meanwhile, in 1997, eight Islamic countries, including Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey, established the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, also known as D-8 for short.

It was formed with the goal of promoting the status of member countries in the global economy, enhancing commercial relationships, promoting their roles in international decision-making, and improving living standards.

The D-8 International University (D8IU) was established to generate, promote, and develop cooperation among member countries through interactions among universities and students while striving to provide the necessary support to ensure equitable and inclusive educational opportunities for all students.
