UMPSA signs collaboration agreements with 3 Institutions in Hebei

BEBEK, 22 September 2023 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has signed memoranda of understanding (MoU) with three TVET institutions in the Hebei Ministry of Education, China. These institutions are Hebei Petroleum University of Technology, Hebei Software Institute, and Shijiazhuang Institute of Railway Technology.

The collaboration focuses on academic exchange programmes between UMPSA and these three institutions, including short-term academic programmes, industrial training for bachelor's and dual degree programmes.

UMPSA was represented by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, while Hebei Software Institute (HSI) was represented by the Discipline Committee Secretary of HSI, Professor Wu Xitao. Vice President, Professor Wu Ali, attended on behalf of Shijiazhuang Institute of Railway Technology.

UMPSA also signed an MoU with Hebei Petroleum University of Technology, represented by Vice President, Professor Ma Xiancai. UMPSA is the first higher education institute in Malaysia to have such an MoU.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Minister of the Hebei Ministry of Education, Professor Wang Liqian, and Ahmad Rizal Adnan, Deputy Director-General, Department of Higher Education, representing the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education.

Also present were the Director of the Human Capital Development Division, Public Service Department, Jamalulail Abu Bakar, and the Vice President of Hebei University, Professor Dr. Shen Shigang.

According to Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, UMPSA is committed to enhancing international community relations in line with the Key Performance Indicators: International Joint Degree Programmes in UMPSA's 2021-2025 Strategic Plan to realize UMPSA's vision as a 'Premier Technological University.'

"At present, UMPSA has collaborated with several universities in China such as Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU), Tianjin University (TJU), Hebei University (HBU), and Ningxia University (NXU). This has attracted several educational institutions in China to collaborate with UMPSA," he said.

The collaborative relationship between UMPSA and BJTU since 2020 has seen UMPSA continuing its rail transport talent development agenda by offering dual-degree academic programmes in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering in collaboration with partners from BJTU.

Discussions were also held between UMPSA faculty deans and faculty representatives from Hebei University (HBU). Topics included the implementation of a global classroom, co-supervisor programmes for master's degrees, international matching grants, and the continuation of existing dual-degree programmes.
