45 CBTM graduands of joint UMP and AKEPT programme grow leadership talent competency

KUANTAN, 20 March 2022 - 45 graduands of the joint programme between Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT) under the Lifelong Learning (LLL) agenda received their diplomas presented by the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin in conjunction with the 15th UMP Convocation Ceremony yesterday.

The programme is implemented through the Centre for Lifelong Studies, UMP Advanced which successfully produced graduates in Professional Diploma in Competency-Based Talent Management (CBTM).

According to the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, the execution of human capital development and talent management aligns with the importance of higher education human resource development and world scholarship consolidating high performance job delivery in the future.

“The leadership talent management and empowerment agenda are important in the organisation ecosystem and Higher Education Institutions (IPT) in line with AKEPT’s goals in making competency a milestone in cultivating authoritative talent management in Public Universities (UA),” he said.

He presented diplomas and degrees to 958 UMP Advanced graduands consisting of 510 Executive Master’s Degree graduands and 448 Executive Bachelor’s Degree and Professional Diploma graduands in the sixth and seventh sessions of the 15th UMP Convocation Ceremony.

For the Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) Registrar, Mazula Sabudin, who was also present to receive a CBTM Diploma, the exposure to human resource knowledge with the ten modules established was able to produce more competent officers and more structured talent management.

She said these efforts would strengthen competency-based leadership talent management more holistically and objectively to achieve leadership talent management sustainability.

“Blended learning is a method that combines the approaches of face-to-face and online learning modes,” she said.

She hoped that the AKEPT-UMP efforts would continue to plan the authoritative UA leadership continuity agenda for the excellence of national higher education.

Meanwhile, Professor Dr. Rohaya Mohd Nor, Director of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Leadership Centre, said this programme is very helpful in applying knowledge in organising productivity of daily work.

She was very committed while attending classes and following all the provided modules until she could obtain a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.97 which is a highly valuable achievement for her.  

Meanwhile, the Deputy Senior Registrar of the Institute of Learning and Development (ILD) Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Ts. Mohd. Mohd. Rafizi Rahmat, who is also the Deputy President 1 in the Institute of Human Resource Management, said this learning was a new experience that provided many benefits specifically to his tasks and responsibilities at UiTM.

“This programme gives a lot of exposure and current information in human resource talent management while increasing the job network with talent management in other UAs.

Another CBTM graduand who is the President of the Malaysian Public Universities Administrators Association Council (MASTI), Yang Mulia Raja Shah Erman Raja Arifin from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) said that CBTM is the best platform stemming from AKEPT’s original and creative idea with great commitment from UMP which is able to increase UA talent management competency in line with the latest human resource approach.

“This is a success in jumpstarting and strengthening public administration talent giving exposure and the latest information in human resource talent management.

“In addition, this programme can increase the collaboration network among public institutions in Malaysia,” he said.

The ceremony carried out following the new normal proceeded smoothly with enthusiastic reception among the graduands who awaited this historical day since finishing their studies two years ago.

Also present were the Chairman of the UMP Advanced Board of Directors, Dato’ Mohd Sharil Abdullah and Chief Executive Officer of UMP Advanced, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd. Rusllim Mohamed.

In the meantime, UMP celebrated 3,556 graduands in the 15th UMP Convocation Ceremony which was carried out for four days, starting on 17 March and concluded on 20 March in the event held at Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Kuantan.
