KDYMM Regent of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah proclaimed as UMPSA's Pro-Chancellor

GAMBANG, 21 October 2023 - The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah consented to the proclamation of the Regent of Pahang Tengku Mahkota Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah as the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) today.

His Majesty congratulated the Regent of Pahang on his proclamation as the UMPSA Pro-Chancellor.

He said he hoped that this proclamation would bring new dimensions and ideas for UMPSA to be continuously regarded as a distinguished public institute of higher learning (IHL) in the country.

His Majesty said this in his royal speech at UMPSA’s 18th Convocation Ceremony at the Sports Complex Hall, UMPSA Gambang Campus.

Accompanying His Majesty was his son, YAM Tengku Panglima Raja Colonel Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim Shah Ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The Regent of Pahang Tengku Mahkota Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah was born on 17 September 1995 at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan, Kuantan.

His Majesty received his early education at Sekolah Rendah St. Thomas, Kuantan, Pahang from 2002 to 2005.

He continued his education at Caldicott Preparatory School, London, United Kingdom from 2006 to 2009 and then at Sherborne School, London, United Kingdom from 2009 to 2014.

He then went on to study at the Geneva School of Diplomacy and International Relations, Switzerland and obtained a degree in International Relations.

In addition, he also underwent a military course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst from 1 January 2019 to 14 December 2019.

As the heir to the throne of the Sultanate of Pahang Darul Makmur, His Majesty was proclaimed as Tengku Mahkota Pahang on 22 January 2019 after his father ascended to the throne as the 6th Sultan of Pahang.

He was then appointed as the Regent of Pahang following his father’s appointment as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on 31 January 2019.

On 3 September 2019, His Majesty was proclaimed Chancellor of Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UniPSAS), formerly known as Kolej Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (KUIPSAS).

As the Regent of Pahang, he has a great responsibility in managing the state as well as the people.

He takes after his parents, who are always so concerned about the welfare of the people under their rule.

He regularly oversees the lives of the community members.

His friendly and people-oriented attitude made it easy for him to participate in activities with people from all walks of life and he was always there when the people needed him.

His Majesty always tells the people, especially in the state of Pahang Darul Makmur, to adopt environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles in managing the treasures and the earth as well as in everyday life.

His Majesty’s concern for the Malayan Tiger which is a symbol of the courage, pride and strength of the Malaysian people is a reflection of His Majesty’s concern for biodiversity heritage and environmental issues.

As a youth himself, His Majesty is close to the young people, often carrying out activities together and participating in sports activities.

In addition to equestrian sports, His Majesty is also interested in rugby.

His relationship with this institution started in childhood, as he often followed his father on visits to the university.

Due to His Majesty’s prominence and concern for volunteer activities, he has consented to be appointed as the Royal Patron of UMPSA Volunteers.

His Majesty inherited his father’s and grandfather’s attitudes, both of whom were friendly presences in the community.

The legacy of ‘The Ruler and His Subjects Are Inseparable’ inherited from His Majesty’s father and grandfather has made his presence among the community members greatly appreciated by all.
