Tech-and entrepreneur-savvy add value to graduates

KUANTAN, 6 August 2022 - Graduates of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) should be wise to take opportunities in line with current needs and involvement in entrepreneurship and technological intelligence that give added value to them.

According to UMP Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Abi Musa Asa’ari Mohamed Nor, graduation is only a first step.

“The knowledge will begin to shape life, facing the real world in applying knowledge.

“You should have a life direction plan, be patient and wise in dealing with current problems by promoting your scholarly potential.

“You also need to prepare to become agile and versatile leaders to face the challenges of global issues such as health crisis, climate change, economy, geopolitics and poverty,” he said while delivering his speech at the UMP 16th Convocation Ceremony.

Also present were the Chairman of the UMP Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman and UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.

Meanwhile, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, sharing the development of the university, said UMP is also the only university involved in supplying skilled personnel for the development of ECRL in the fields of civil, mechanical and electrical engineering through collaboration with Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU).

“A total of 46 first batch students have completed their studies at UMP for two years and will continue to study at Beijing Jiaotong University starting the next session for two and a half years.

“They will be trained to be skilled engineers for the ECRL project that is currently underway.

“Meanwhile, for the second phase, 32 students will involve in this programme,” he said.

He also expressed his deep appreciation to the Public Service Department (JPA) for sponsoring these students to participate in the programme.

The Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) 16th Convocation Ceremony saw a total of 4,082 graduands for 2021, comprising doctoral and master’s graduands (280), bachelor’s graduands (2,235) and diploma graduands (506) as well as UMP Advanced graduands (1,061) receiving their degrees and diplomas from 6 to 9 August at the Sports Complex,  UMP Gambang Campus.

Out of the total, 22 graduands received two degrees in the UMP-HKA Dual Degree program in collaboration with the German Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA), which is now entering its 12th year focusing on Automative Engineering and Mechatronic Engineering.

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Abi Musa Asa’ari Mohamed Nor presented the degrees and excellence awards to a total of 942 master’s and doctoral degree recipients, as well as 24 awards and prizes of excellence in conjunction with the Convocation Ceremony held today (6 August) until 9 August.

The recipients of the Royal Education Award (Pingat Jaya Cemerlang) are Farhana Munirah Zainuri, graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Energy and Environment) with Honours and Ee Hui En, Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Pharmaceuticals) with Honours.

The recipient of the Chancellor’s Award is Thiew Jih Herng, Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours); the Pro-Chancellor’s Award is awarded to Goh Yi Ling, Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Pharmaceuticals) with Honours; Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Nor Afifah Abdullah, Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Energy & Environment) with Honours; and University Gold Awards for Amira Abdul Talib, Bachelor of Project Management with Honours and Lee Jia Huey, Diploma of Chemical Engineering (Process Plant).

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Abi Musa will also present the degrees to 837 graduands in the third session on 7 August 2022 (Sunday).

Meanwhile, the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin will present the degrees in the fourth session involving 808 graduands and on 9 August 2022, 842 graduands are involved in the fifth session and 654 graduands in the sixth session.
