UMPSA equipped with state-of-the-art facilities will produce successful engineers

GAMBANG, 21 October 2023 - A graduand of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Pagie Lau Ting Ying from Miri, Sarawak received the Presidential Academic Excellence Prize from the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) at the UMPSA 18th Convocation Ceremony held at the UMPSA Sports Complex Hall, Gambang Campus.

The second child of three siblings is a B.Eng (Hons.) Mechanical Engineering graduand from the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA).

She who obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.87 is also a Yayasan UMPSA Scholarship holder and was awarded the Faculty Gold Award during his diploma study at UMPSA.

The daughter of Factory Supervisor, Lau Shan Hock, 52, and trader Voon Nyet Ching, 48, continued her undergraduate studies at UMPSA and received Gamuda Foundation scholarship after completing her diploma study.

She is a very active person and also participated in various activities such as Scholarly Talk and Lonjakan Saujana.

While at UMPSA, she also held the positions of EXCO, Vice Secretary, Enactus Club and Vice Chairman for Chinese Cultural Night 2022 (UCCN).

She said UMPSA is equipped with various state-of-the-art facilities.

“In fact, the lecturers are also experienced and teach with love.

“The co-curricular activities provided by UMPSA have attracted students to engage with activities other than learning.

“I have successfully dared myself to speak in public, especially when presenting in lectures, giving speeches during club activities and others,” she said.

She said that this achievement meant a lot to her because she was a shy and quiet person.

“My principle is that my current situation is not my final destination.

“I aspire to be a successful engineer so that I can contribute to society and the country.

“Parental love is one of the main contributors to my success today,” she said.

She wants to change her family’s life in order to ease the burden of parents in the future.

She currently works as a Building Information Modelling (BIM) Engineer at Gamuda Engineering Sdn. Bhd.

“One of my specialities is to detect collisions in 3D models before projects such as houses, condominiums, and others are built.

“This can reduce errors and costs that may delay the progress of construction.

“The scope of my work is now very suitable and similar to what I learned at UMPSA, not only in education but also in soft skills,” she said.

She thanked her family, especially her parents because they often gave support and encouragement not to give up while facing various challenges without complaining.

“Also not forgotten my friends; they always help me, no matter physically or mentally.

“Without their help, there is also no way I could have achieved this success,” Pagie explained.
