Yunalis Amani named as recipient of the Professor Dato’ Dr. Mashitah Mohd. Yusof Award

GAMBANG, 22 October 2023 – ‘Tuah ayam nampak di kaki, tuah manusia siapa yang tahu’, such was what was experienced by Dungun-born Yunalis Amani Abd Rashid, 24 when she was selected to receive the Professor Dato’ Dr. Mashitah Mohd Yusof Award.

Graduating with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.71, Yunalis anticipated that she would only receive a faculty award.

However, the Bachelor of Applied Science in Data Analytics with Honours graduand thinks this is the result of all her sweat and tears.

“I did not know that the programme offered was a new programme introduced at UMP in 2019.

“The challenge I faced was of course to understand the classes; furthermore, the courses are being taught for the first time at UMP.

“I had to pour more effort to gain understanding and complete the coursework,” she said.

“My friends and I also did a lot of online discussions to share our opinions and knowledge,” said Yunalis, who is the third of four siblings.

The daughter of Abdul Rashid Saip and Hanisah Hassan, 58, stated that students should be given the opportunity to organise and manage programmes.

“This involvement can hone and improve the soft skills of students,” she said.

Serving as a Data Engineer trainee at Avanade Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Yunalis said that her parents are the biggest contributors to her success.

“I am grateful to have parents and siblings who have always prayed for me and supported me in any way, all the way.

“Also, thank you to the lecturers and friends who helped a lot during my time at UMP.

“Everything is a gift from Allah SWT,” she said.

She holds on to the tenet that every cloud has a silver lining and never questions her fate.

She hopes to become successful and contribute her expertise to the development of Malaysia.
