Bicara Perwira injects appreciation to police
KUALA LUMPUR, 12 August 2022 - The Bicara Perwira programme titled ‘Police Sacrifice Against Communist Terrorists’ organised by Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) recently took place at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Hall, RMP College Kuala Lumpur successfully injected appreciation among the young people to the struggle of the police in defending the beloved country.
The Chairman of the Board of UMP, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman said, this programme aimed to display the struggles and sacrifices that every policeman underwent during the insurgency in 1948-1989, thus elevating the dignity and building the narrative to appreciate the struggle that the RMP team has given in maintaining the security and sovereignty of the beloved country among students and young people.
“Today, we can all enjoy peace and security due to the sacrifices and struggles of the police in ensuring that any form of violence can be overcome.
“Therefore, respect and remember all the services and sacrifices of the heroes, members of RMP, their families and all the people who have served tirelessly, who have also pledged their lives for the peace of the country so that today’s generation can live in a comfortable and safe atmosphere.
“The experience of these heroes and their history should be shared and documented to serve as a historical record and reference for the younger generation,” he said.
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz hoped this programme could foster the spirit of love for the country, especially among the youth because they will lead the country one day.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said, efforts to increase the spirit of patriotism have been carried out in an integrated manner from the elementary level to the university.
“People should learn lessons and understand the true meaning of the struggle for independence,” he said.
He said to students that even though they do not tower up weapons, the spirit of patriotism must be fostered to ensure the welfare and security of the country continues to be preserved.
The programme featured three panellists consisting of former Chief EIM Officer, Special Branch, Dato’ Abdullah Abdul Hamid, Senior Dean of the UMP College of Management and Humanities, Associate Professor Dr. Hassan Ahmad, Lawyer and Exco of the British Graduate Association Malaysia (BGAM), Ooi Suan Kim.
While the Senior Director of UMP ADAB Academy, Major Imaduddin Abidin acted as moderator.
The discussion focused on three perspectives, namely academic, police involvement and the public.
For Datuk Abdullah, the younger generation needs to know and be interested in history; if history can be lived, surely they can live the true meaning of independence.
Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Hassan Ahmad advised the younger generation to participate in many of these discourse programmes to gain more understanding and become the agent to disseminate the stories of the struggle of the police and the forefathers.
Ooi Suan Kim said, “Do not forget the sacrifices of the heroes who have sacrificed so much for the sake of the country and we should be grateful for the unlimited police sacrifice for a peaceful country.”
Also present were the Chairman of BGAM, Dato Kamarudin Md Ali and the Chairman of the Retired Senior Police Officers Association (RESPA), Dato’ Meor Che Hussein.
The first-ever Bicara Perwira programme was an initiative of Yayasan UMP and the Institute of Civilisation and Strategic Studies (ITKAS) UMP.
Also present were the top management of UMP and RMP, former F-TEAM members, representatives from the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF), Council of Former Elected Representatives (MUBARAK), Masjid Saidina Umar al-Khattab Bukit Damansara (MSUA), RMP staff and UMP students.
